Conte’s Italy taking shape

The Azzurri still have issues to sort out, writes Samuel Bridges, but Antonio Conte’s vision is starting to become clearer.

Two wins from their last two games and qualification for EURO 2016 is starting to look like a formality as usual for Italy. Dominating possession is something Antonio Conte has brought with him from Juventus and it's a strategy that has been proven to work. Despite that, only managing to put two goals past Malta and Bulgaria is cause for concern.

‘Inter, Milan are Scudetto contenders’

Former Italy CT Cesare Prandelli believes Milan and Inter are ‘absolutely’ contenders for the Scudetto.

The pair meet in the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday, with both having invested heavily in new faces this summer.

“They are two teams who have been revolutionised, and two Coaches [Roberto Mancini and Sinisa Mihajlovic] who are winners,” Prandelli told MilanNews.

“It will be very interesting to see what they do tactically, as the two Coaches know each other very well. It will be a match with a lot of goals.

Pt2: Assessing Italy's youth

Italy must reshape its roster to regain international success. In part two of his analysis, Vincent van Genechten evaluates the new breed of strikers.

STRIKERS

Lorenzo Insigne (24, Napoli)

Insigne made his way through the youth ranks at Napoli and had very successful loans at Foggia and Pescara. The winger scored 37 goals in only two seasons and returned to the Partenopei in 2012. In three Serie A campaigns Insigne sits at 10 goals and an impressive 21 assists. He hasn’t made the expected big bang as he’s only played six times for the Azzurri, but he’s developed into a very good player for a strong Serie A side, being valued at €15m.

Edgar Davids told Juventus they miss Arturo Vidal and “only Mario Balotelli can help himself now” at Milan.

The Dutch ‘Pitbull’ sat down with La Gazzetta dello Sport to cast his eye over the Serie A scene, above all reigning champions Juventus.

“I am not worried, as after four or five years of constant success a dip in form is normal. The important thing is to ensure it’s only a passing phase.
