Bologna see off SPAL in derby

Bologna were made to work hard for this victory in the local derby, as SPAL set up a nervous finale with Mirco Antenucci’s stunner.

This fixture hadn’t been played at all since 1992-93 and not in Serie A for 50 years.

Andrea Poli opened the scoring by finishing off a magnificent team move, sparked by Federico Di Francesco’s perfect first touch and Rodrigo Palacio knock-down.

Godfred Donsah was on the counter and tried to set up Palacio for the second, which Bartosz Salamon accidentally turned into his own net.

Donsah reveals family sacrifice

Bologna midfielder Godfred Donsah described how he came to Italy and only managed to see his father again after eight years.

Now 21, the Ghanaian has played at Palermo, Verona, Cagliari and Bologna, but the story began with his father Twaku Tachi.

“If I weren’t a football player, I’d be working in the cacao plantations, just like my parents did,” Donsah told Che Tempo Che Fa.

Di Vaio backs Zaza for Azzurri

Simone Zaza will earn an Italy recall if he keeps banging in the goals for Valencia, trusts Marco Di Vaio. “The best thing is his desire.”

The 26-year-old was ignored by Azzurri Coach Giampiero Ventura, despite scoring six in seven Liga games this season.

Valenciacf.com called on someone who has experienced playing at the Mestalla and wearing the Italy jersey – current Bologna director Di Vaio – who was in Spain from 2004 to 2006.

Guidolin: 'I rejected Inter last year'

Francesco Guidolin reveals he was offered the Inter job last year, came close to Juventus, Lazio and the Italy bench, but has “no regrets.”

The former Vicenza, Udinese and Swansea City tactician is currently working as a television pundit in Italy and assured La Gazzetta dello Sport that he is “not obsessed by the idea of getting back into the sport.

“I am waiting for a proposal that will enrich me professionally rather than economically. Maybe abroad, perhaps an international team. I need something that reaches my heart.”

Ventura must take the blame

Italy unveiled a new badge and kit against Macedonia, but Adam Digby saw the same old Coach and uninspired performance.

A draw. With Macedonia. At home. If ever a result summed up Italy during Giampiero Ventura’s tenure, it was this: the Azzurri held to a disappointing 1-1 stalemate by a team they should have brushed aside comfortably. The performance was every bit as uninspiring as the final score would indicate, and the 69-year-old can expect to be completely lambasted by the national and international media alike in the coming days.

Italy: Verdi preferred to Candreva

Italy are expected to start Bologna winger Simone Verdi rather than Antonio Candreva in a new 3-4-3 formation against Macedonia.

The World Cup qualifier kicks off in Turin on Friday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

Coach Giampiero Ventura appears to be moving away from the 4-2-4 formation he has used thus far and tested out a 3-4-3 in training both yesterday and today.

According to Mediaset Premium, Verdi will be given his full Italy debut on the right side of the trident rather than Inter winger Candreva.

Poli ‘not thinking of Italy’

Bologna’s Andrea Poli says he is ‘not thinking’ about a potential future return to the Italy squad.

The midfielder last played for the Azzurri in 2014 but was linked with a possible recall after impressing for the Rossoblu early this season.

However, when asked about the possibility of representing his country again, the former Milan midfielder insisted it is not in his thoughts.

“I’m not thinking about it, I want to do the best I can in the shirt of my team,” Poli told reporters.
