UEFA ease FFP regulations

As expected, UEFA have relaxed Financial Fair Play regulations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, postponing the break-even assessment until next year.

It was evident that the crisis and three-month lockdown, not to mention resuming the season behind closed doors, had a huge effect on the finances of even Europe’s top football clubs.

With the very real risk of sides going bankrupt or unable to prove their financial stability, UEFA took some off the pressure off by easing the FFP rules.

Scaroni: 'Milan move with Gazidis'

Paolo Scaroni has explained how Milan are moving forward with Ivan Gazidis, assured that ‘mistakes are behind us’ and claimed ‘FFP will change’.

UEFA revisit FFP regulations?

The future of European football is at stake and UEFA will have some important decisions to make regarding the Financial Fair Play regulations.

UEFA introduced FFP to prevent clubs from spending beyond their means and to avoid having a host of elite clubs carrying unsustainable levels of debt. As the world is currently dealing with a non-football related emergency, the total losses limit of €30m might have to change when football resumes.

Man City banned from Champions League

UEFA announced they have banned Manchester City from Europe for the next two seasons and fined them €30m for Financial Fair Play violations.

This is the latest step in UEFA’s attempts to clamp down on flagrant violations of the FFP rules and will act as a warning to other clubs.

Whereas Milan were excluded from European competition in the 2019/20 season, that was an agreement reached between the club and UEFA to resolve years of mismanagement and start again with a clean slate.
