Man City banned from Champions League

UEFA announced they have banned Manchester City from Europe for the next two seasons and fined them €30m for Financial Fair Play violations.

This is the latest step in UEFA’s attempts to clamp down on flagrant violations of the FFP rules and will act as a warning to other clubs.

Whereas Milan were excluded from European competition in the 2019/20 season, that was an agreement reached between the club and UEFA to resolve years of mismanagement and start again with a clean slate.

Report: Juventus in FFP danger

According to RMC Sport, Juventus are at risk of breaching Financial Fair Play parameters, as their payroll to total revenue ratio is at 71 per cent.

The calculations were made based on a leaked copy of the KPMG financial report on the eight major European league champions, showing Juve are the only ones running at a loss.

The report also suggests “the net results for the 2019-20 season will also be revised negatively.”

Zhang wants 'more flexible' FFP

Steven Zhang says he would like Financial Fair Play to be “more flexible” and that a new stadium is key to Inter’s growth.

Inter were finally freed of FFP restrictions in May - three years after Suning Group’s takeover - and Zhang believes the current system is making life difficult for new owners.

“Since I arrived here the problem has been to understand how Financial Fair Play works,” he said at the seminar ‘Financial Fair Play – does it matter?’, SempreInter.com reports.

Boban: 'Milan logic, not fireworks'

Milan director Zvonimir Boban warns “it will take time, with logical choices rather than fireworks, but we will get back to the top. A low profile is not a lack of ambition.”

Former player Boban quit his job with FIFA to join Paolo Maldini and Ivan Gazidis in running the Rossoneri after chaotic spells under Marco Fassone, Massimiliano Mirabelli and Leonardo.

“It’ll take time, with logical choices rather than the pointless fireworks we saw in recent years, but we will get back to the top,” he told the Corriere della Sera newspaper.

Scaroni: 'Milan removed FFP burden'

Milan President Paolo Scaroni assures giving up on the Europa League “did us good by taking away the burden of Financial Fair Play.”

The Rossoneri had qualified for the tournament, but rather than risk ending up in the same situation next year with huge Financial Fair Play discrepancies, they agreed with UEFA to be excluded and wipe the slate clean.

“It did hurt to go out of Europe, but it did us good by taking away the burden of Financial Fair Play,” Scaroni told Sky Sport Italia.

Official: Roma and Torino upgraded

UEFA have officially moved Roma into the Europa League group phase following Milan’s exclusion, while Torino enter the preliminary round on July 25.

The decision to exclude Milan from UEFA competition due to Financial Fair Play violations was finally confirmed by the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) on Friday.

With that news, the two teams behind them in the 2018-19 Serie A table are bumped up.

UEFA: 'Milan sanction acknowledged'

UEFA have released a statement on Milan’s exclusion from the Europa League, seeing it as “confirmation failure to be break-even compliant must lead to a severe sanction.”

The Rossoneri had appealed the original exclusion last year and the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) delayed its implementation while studying the situation and finding compromise punishments that did not suit either side.

Scaroni: 'Milan had to end saga'

Milan President Paolo Scaroni admits they had to “put an end to this saga and take this burden off our backs” after accepting Europa League exclusion.

The club had succeeded in winning an appeal to at least delay their exclusion from the Europa League last summer for Financial Fair Play infractions, but the situation was even worse this time around.
