Serie B: Palermo take top spot

Palermo conquered Cremonese to go top, Venezia and Parma marched on and Cesena were pegged back by 10-man Salernitana in a six-goal thriller.

It was an extremely tense showdown in Cremona, as the Sicilians fought back from a goal down to win thanks also to their goalkeeper Alberto Pomini’s fingertip save in stoppages.

It was a spectacular match in Cesena, as despite going down to 10 men, Salernitana recovered a two-goal deficit to snatch a point.

Palermo are now top of the table, one point ahead of Frosinone and Venezia.

Serie B: Perugia sack Giunti

Perugia fired Coach Federico Giunti after a 3-0 home defeat to bottom of the Serie B table side Cesena.

The Grifone had been top in the early rounds, but collapsed in recent weeks with five consecutive defeats.

This evening’s 3-0 at home to Cesena proved the final straw for director of sport Roberto Goretti.

Serie B: Cesena sack Camplone

Serie B side Cesena have officially sacked Coach Andrea Camplone after a 5-2 defeat to Pro Vercelli.

The 51-year-old had been at the helm since October 2016.

Cesena are rooted to the foot of the table after just one win, one draw and five defeats this season.

It is widely reported that Fabrizio Castori is ready to step in.

This would be a return for Castori, who was already on the Cesena bench from 2003 to 2007 and again for the last four months of the 2007-08 campaign.

Pippo Inzaghi turns down Cesena

It is reported that Pippo Inzaghi has turned down the opportunity to take over as Coach of Serie B side Cesena.

The Emilia-Romagna club, who were last in Serie A in 2015, have suffered a disappointing season and are unlikely to persist with current boss Andrea Camplone.

According to Tuttomercato, the Bianconeri made an approach to former Milan boss Inzaghi, who is currently in charge of Venezia.

However, the 43-year-old is said to have made it clear that he is not interested in the post, preferring to remain with the Lagunari.

U21: Euros in Italy and San Marino

UEFA confirmed Italy will host the Under-21 European Championship from June 16-30 2019 in five cities plus San Marino.

This is the first time the tournament will be in the Peninsula and therefore Italy qualify automatically as the host nation.

The games will be played in Bologna, Cesena, Reggio-Emilia, Trieste, Udine and San Marino.

The Azzurrini have won the title five times (1992, 1994, 1996 and 2000), getting the silver medal in 1986 and 2013.
