Owen and the Inter rumours in 1998: 'I studied Italian'

Former England international Michael Owen has revealed he studied Italian in 1998 to be ready for a possible move to Inter.

The former Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle and Manchester United forward, remembers interest from Massimo Moratti’s Inter in the late 1990’s.

“After the World Cup in 1998, when I was at Liverpool, there was interest from Italian clubs,” Owen told Sky Sport Italia.

“My manager at the time was the same as David Platt’s and he had a good relationship with many Presidents.

De Paul sends message to Liverpool and Real

Speaking about his future after Udinese’s 2-1 defeat against Sampdoria, Liverpool and Real Madrid target Rodrigo De Paul said he sets ‘no limits’ for himself.

The Argentinean gave Udinese the lead against Sampdoria in the second half of a Marassi clash on Saturday, but  the Blucerchiati eventually took all three points thanks to goals from Antonio Candreva and Ernesto Torregrossa.

Liverpool eye move for De Paul

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool are interested in signing Rodrigo De Paul, but Udinese are not going to sell the Argentinean for less than €40m.

The Reds may need a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum who hasn’t reached an agreement to extend his contract with the Reds expiring this coming June.

According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool have set their sights on De Paul, but Udinese want at least €40m to sell the 26-year-old.

Capello bemused by Hasenhuttl tears

Fabio Capello was unimpressed by Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl’s show of emotion after beating Liverpool.

The coach dropped to his knees and burst into tears at the final whistle of the 1-0 victory against Jurgen Klopp’s reigning Premier League champions.

“I don’t understand this sort of thing,” mused former England manager Capello on Sky Sport Italia.

“He was working, a bit of emotion is fine in these situations, but this was completely over the top.

Seedorf trains with Van Dijk

Former Inter and Milan star Clarence Seedorf trained with injured Holland captain Virgil van Dijk and was ‘happy to see the determination’ of the Liverpool defender.

Seedorf posted a picture on Instagram of him and Van Dijk, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury in October, in the gym and said he was impressed by the Netherlands centre-back’s attitude.

Liverpool and Everton still want Bremer

Liverpool and Everton are still said to be pursuing Torino’s Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer in January.

According to Corriere Granata transfer pundit Matteo Pedrosi, the two Merseyside clubs have not given up on the interest they had already shown over the summer.

Fulham had also approached Toro for Bremer at the start of the season, but moved on to Lyon’s Joachim Anderson instead.

Liverpool are believed to be the most determined club in this race, seeing Bremer as a valid alternative during Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip injuries.

Will Origi move to Serie A?

Liverpool striker Divock Origi is being linked with a number of Serie A clubs, including Juventus and Milan, but where could he end up if he does leave the Reds in January?

Haaland: 'Koulibaly among world's best'

Erling Braut Haaland has named Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly as one of the three 'best centre-backs in the world.'

The Borussia Dortmund striker spoke to Norwegian newspaper VG about the opponents he has faced so far in his career.

“I think the three best centre-backs in the world are Sergio Ramos, Virgil van Dijk and Kalidou Koulibaly,” said Haaland.

“All three are very physical, but are also very intelligent in the way that they play.”
