Genoa: 'One to tell the grandchildren!'

Davide Ballardini and President Enrico Preziosi know the fightback 4-3 win over Roma is “one to tell the grandchildren about.”

The Rossoblu were losing 3-0 on home turf at the 51st minute, but completed an extraordinary comeback with Rodrigo Palacio and Alberto Paloschi braces.

“We played a great game, even when we were losing 3-0. I hoped, but to be honest, I didn't believe in this result,” said Coach Ballardini.

Too much of a good thing

With big spenders Genoa lying 13th, Scott Fleming pinpoints a scattergun transfer policy as the root of their problems

Genoa's ascent seemed irresistible. They went from relegation to Serie C1 in 2005 to narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification in 2009, and they did it playing the kind of football that makes supporters sing and pundits purr. A new power was rising, bankrolled by deep pocketed President Enrico Preziosi and roared on by their exceptionally passionate fans.

Preziosi threatens to sell Genoa

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has threatened to sell the club if he hears one more insult aimed at his family.

The 62-year-old met with supporters yesterday to express his unhappiness at their recent behaviour.

"Thanks for your criticism because it helps me grow," Preziosi said.

"If I ought to hear you repeat them one more time, even through the voice of just one person, in an episode like last Sunday's I guarantee you that I will keep the club safe, but this will be my last year here.

Preziosi laughs off Toni reports

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has laughed off reports linking Milan and Inter with a bid for Luca Toni in the January transfer window.

The veteran striker only joined Genoa in the summer and it is unlikely Preziosi would sanction the sale of another of his star players after agreeing to let Andrea Ranocchia join Inter.

Asked about the reports, Preziosi joked: "Yes, it's true. Toni is going to Milan just as Ronaldinho is going to Lumezzane."

The toy maker also rejected claims that he is among the parties interested in buying Roma.

Genoa not keen on Marchetti

Genoa have rejected suggestions that they are planning to sign Federico Marchetti from Cagliari in January.

Reports earlier this week claimed that Italy’s 2010 World Cup ‘keeper would kick-start his career with a switch to Marassi after Christmas.

The Sardinian club even insisted that they were ready to offload him to the Grifone, but the latter don’t seem impressed.

“We are talking about a player who we have never chased or even been interested in,” said President Enrico Preziosi.

Preziosi blasts 'lazy' Veloso

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi blasted Miguel Veloso and Houssine Kharja. “I'd rather have donkeys who run than thoroughbreds who stand still.”

The two summer signings have struggled to make an impact and disappointed during last night's extra time 3-1 Coppa Italia win over Vicenza.

“What do I make of Veloso? There are some players who don't realise what it means to play for Genoa and in January we can make them understand,” slammed Preziosi in the Secolo XIX newspaper.

Preziosi blasts 'crafty' Juve

Genoa chief Enrico Preziosi has taken issue with Juventus' use of Claudio Marchisio in Sunday's Serie A game. "We are evidently stupid," he noted.

The Old Lady won the tie 2-0 with Marchisio netting the opener just days after he was forced to withdraw from the Italy squad due to injury.

"We are evidently stupid by allowing our players to respond to international call-ups," stated the Marassi chief.

"Our players were tired after they rightly honoured their commitments to their national sides in the week.

Official: Genoa sack Gasperini

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has sacked Gian Piero Gasperini after four years at the helm and brought in Davide Ballardini as his replacement.

It was no secret that Preziosi had grown tired of watching his team underachieve, especially after spending over £30m in the summer.

Genoa have lost three of their last four games in Serie A and slipped down to 14th last night following a 1-0 defeat away to Palermo.

This morning's La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed Davide Ballardini was the favourite for the post and it appears they were correct.

Preziosi believes in Ballardini

Genoa chief Enrico Preziosi insists Davide Ballardini is the right man for the job after sacking Gian Piero Gasperini.

The former Juventus youth boss was axed on Monday after collecting just 11 points from 10 games following the 1-0 loss at Palermo.

"I feel sorry for Gasperini, but I felt the need for a change even if this separation hurts," noted the Marassi chief.

"Ballardini is the ideal replacement. I like him a lot, perhaps because he has already worked under difficult Presidents such as [Claudio] Lotito and [Maurizio] Zamparini...
