Genoa offer Perin renewal

Genoa have reportedly opened talks with Mattia Perin over a three-year extension to his contract.

The goalkeeper has suffered two serious knee injuries in recent years, but appears to be back to his best this season and made two crucial saves in Monday’s defeat to Atalanta.

According to Il Secolo XIX, Perin’s agent and the Grifone have begun discussing a new contract, with the idea being for the Italian international to extend until 2022.

Giacomelli rested for Week 17

Piero Giacomelli hasn’t been given a Serie A game this weekend, after his controversial refereeing in the Lazio-Torino game on Monday.

The Biancocelesti were incensed by the official’s decisions in their 3-1 defeat, and insisted there’s a campaign against them.

Today the AIA has announced the referees for Week 17, and Giacomelli hasn’t been assigned to a match.

Referees aren’t always involved every week, but this could be a way of taking the Trieste native out of the firing line.

Gasperini: ‘Difficult win at Genoa’

Atalanta Coach Gian Piero Gasperini hails a “complicated” win at Genoa, and says his side have a free hit against Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League.

The Orobici fell behind at Marassi tonight, but ultimately took a 2-1 win which could have been more convincing if not for some great goalkeeping by Mattia Perin.

“Winning here in Genoa, particularly after going behind, was really complicated,” Gasperini told Sky after the match.

“Then we got into the rhythm of the game and we brought home a very, very important result.

Perin not enough for Genoa

Two wonder saves from Mattia Perin weren’t enough to stop Genoa going down 2-1 at home to Atalanta.

The goalkeeper pulled off two amazing blocks either side of half time, but goals from Josip Ilicic and Andrea Masiello cancelled out Andrea Bertolacci’s fourth-minute opener.

Line-ups: Genoa-Atalanta

Davide Ballardini names an unchanged Genoa side from the one which beat Verona, as they take on Atalanta at Marassi.

Goran Pandev and Adel Taarabt led the line for the Grifone at the Stadio Bentegodi, and the Coach has opted to stick with with that pair tonight.

Former Genoa Coach Gian Piero Gasperini is unbeaten against his old side, but his Atalanta haven’t won away so far this season.

The tactician sticks with the familiar 3-4-3 system, with Andrea Petagna leading the line flanked by Josip Ilicic and captain Papu Gomez.

Wk16: Stalemate synchronicity

It was a weekend of dire draws, but some sides tried harder than others to break that deadlock, writes Susy Campanale.

This was an historic weekend, as Juventus, Napoli, Roma and Inter had not all played goalless draws in the same matchday since Week 17 of the 1965-66 campaign. I’d love to say it was not for want of trying, but that wouldn’t be entirely true. Some tried considerably harder than others.

Peru will be without their all-time top goalscorer and captain at the World Cup next summer after Guerrero tested positive for cocaine.

Consequently, Calciomercato.com believes the South Americans’ search for a replacement could take them to Lapadula.
