Genoa or Cagliari for Tonelli

Lorenzo Tonelli is expected to leave Napoli this summer, with interest above all from Genoa and Cagliari.

The 28-year-old centre-back cost €10m from Empoli in 2016, but managed only nine official games for the club, in which he scored three goals.

Carlo Ancelotti is not expected to keep him on, so he is looking at other options.

The Corriere dello Sport suggests Cagliari are ready for a summer swoop, whereas CalcioNapoli24 cite an approach from Genoa.

WC Player Profile: Oscar Hiljemark

The well-travelled midfielder is finding his form again at Genoa and is a manager’s dream tournament player, writes Greg Murray.

It has not been smooth sailing for Oscar Hiljemark, who captained Sweden to triumph in the Under-21 European Championship in 2015 and came to Serie A for Palermo.

He lost his way at Genoa, was loaned out to Panathinaikos, but was granted a welcome reunion with Davide Ballardini.

Hiljemark is the kind of hard-working midfielder that's needed in an intensive month-long competition like the World Cup.

Serie A increasingly northern

Serie A is increasingly northern-centric, with 15 out of 20 clubs for the 2018-19 season based above Rome, while Emilia-Romagna have four sides.

The make-up of the 20-team division was confirmed with last night’s Serie B promotion play-off final, as Frosinone got the better of Palermo, 3-2 on aggregate.

They join Empoli and Parma, who were promoted automatically as first and second in the Serie B campaign.

This means 15 out of the 20 top flight clubs are based from Tuscany upwards, as Rome and below are considered the south.
