Genoa lose Saponara for two weeks

Genoa will be without Riccardo Saponara for the next two weeks after he sustained a thigh injury.

The former Sampdoria and Fiorentina man was diagnosed with a Grade I lesion to the right femoral bicep.

A statement from the club confirmed Saponara is expected to be out of action for 15 days.

It means he will miss the opening two Serie A games of the season against Roma and Fiorentina.

He picked up the muscular injury during Genoa’s Coppa Italia victory over Imolese.

Laxalt wants 'a big club'

Diego Laxalt’s agent maintains there is “no preference between Italy or abroad, as long as it’s a big club,” as he is ready to leave Milan.

The Uruguayan wing-back only joined a year ago from Genoa for €14m plus performance-related bonuses, but was given just 29 competitive appearances all season and is not part of Marco Giampaolo’s plans.

“There is no news yet, but on Tuesday afternoon we have a meeting planned at Casa Milan to speak with the Rossoneri directors,” agent Ariel Krasouski told Milannews.it.

Genoa and Milan want Ankersen

Genoa have joined Milan in chasing FC Copenhagen right-back Peter Ankersen, claim Sportitalia.

The Denmark international turns 29 next month and joined FC Kobenhavn in 2014, although there was a brief loan spell at RB Salzburg in 2015-16.

He contributed one goal and eight assists in 47 competitive games last season.

Primarily a right-back, Ankersen can also play on the left side of defence when needed.

Sportitalia noted the Dane had already been linked with Milan, but now Genoa are tracking his progress with an eye towards a summer move.

Sassuolo deny transfer rumours

Sassuolo have denied interest in Napoli defender Lorenzo Tonelli, free agent Gabriel Paletta or Genoa striker Christian Kouame.

Director Giovanni Carnevali spoke to Sportitalia this evening and was asked about several transfer rumours surrounding the club.

“We are working and still need to complete the squad. We made several signings early in the summer and that allowed us to work with them in training for longer,” said Carnevali.
