Genoa hit hard by suspensions

Antonio Floro Flores and Gelson Fernandes picked up two-match bans, as Genoa are decimated for their Inter match after insulting officials.

The tempestuous 2-1 defeat at Catania cost Genoa dearly, as it saw Coach Davide Ballardini, player Domenico Criscito and Floro Flores sent off.

Floro Flores had just been substituted when he hurled abuse at the fourth official and was sent off from the bench, earning a two-game ban.

Criscito saw red for the foul that gave away a contentious penalty, then Ballardini followed for dissent.

Ballardini seeks new Genoa thrills

Davide Ballardini had “a memorable week” with victories over Sampdoria and Roma, but warns Genoa's trip to Catania will be a tough test.

“Other than the victories, what made this such a memorable week was the way the wins came about,” smiled the tactician ahead of the 11.30 UK time kick-off.

The Rossoblu won the derby and then fought back from 3-0 down to beat Roma 4-3 in an epic thriller.

“That has to be in the past now, though. The team is in good shape and must look forward now with this style of football.

Line-ups: Ranocchia starts in Genoa

Giampaolo Pazzini starts against the club he left in January, as Sampdoria welcome Inter with Andrea Ranocchia's amazing recovery.

This is set to be an emotional encounter for Pazzini, who was a hero to the Marassi fans before his sale towards the end of the transfer window.

He steps out with the blue and black shirt in Genoa for the first time and leads a 4-3-1-2 system with Wesley Sneijder supporting him and Samuel Eto'o.

Preziosi: 'Get off Genoa's bandwagon'

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has hit out at journalists who criticised his side earlier in the season and would now like to get back on the bandwagon.

The Rossoblu have won each of their last two games and appear to be on the brink of realising their potential in the final third of the season.

Genoa started the campaign in a lacklustre fashion despite spending in excess of €30m on new players.

Preziosi: I'd never abandon Genoa

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has denied ever considering leaving the club even if he threatened to do so earlier this season.

Preziosi was fed up with the abuse his son was receiving from the supporters after helping out in the transfer market last summer.

Speaking to Radio Sportiva, Preziosi said: "I never seriously thought about abandoning Genoa also because the fans always showed their attachment to the shirt and to the club.

"Naturally it's also important to put out little fires that can be created."

Ballardini: I speak little and listen a lot

Genoa boss Davide Ballardini claims the secret of his success at the club is that he speaks little and listens a lot.

The Grifone have enjoyed an excellent week in Serie A, winning the Derby della Lanterna and then coming back from 3-0 down to beat Roma 4-3.

"I am made this way," Ballardini told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "I should be less of an unsociable bear, but it's difficult to transform myself.

Martinho and Milanetto out for a month

Catania forward Martinho and Genoa midfielder Omar Milanetto have both been ruled out for a month.

Martinho was stretchered off during the 1-0 defeat to Napoli on Sunday night after apparently spraining his knee.

Tests have now confirmed the ligament in the left knee has been torn, so he will miss out on at least the Serie A encounters with Genoa, Fiorentina, Sampdoria and Udinese.

Genoa will also be without midfielder Milanetto for a month after he suffered a thigh strain during the chaotic 4-3 win over Roma.

Palacio eyes Boca return

Genoa ace Rodrigo Palacio has revealed that he's wanted by Racing Club – but he dreams of a return to Boca Juniors.

"Miguel Angel Russo, my former boss at Boca, rang me," Palacio told ESPN Radio. "He wants me at Racing.

"I'd like to go back to Argentina, where I have many friends, but it would be difficult for me to leave here because I play regularly with Genoa.

"In the future I'd be delighted to return," added the 28-year-old. "I miss the adrenaline of Boca Juniors, of playing at the Bombanera.

Ballardini doubts Roma crisis

Genoa Coach Davide Ballardini is not fooled by Roma's current crisis. “You cannot doubt their true strength.”

The Giallorossi needed a police escort to travel for today's game due to fierce protests in the wake of three consecutive defeats against Inter, Napoli and Shakhtar Donetsk.

“The protests only serve to make Genoa's job more difficult,” warned Ballardini.

Genoa: 'One to tell the grandchildren!'

Davide Ballardini and President Enrico Preziosi know the fightback 4-3 win over Roma is “one to tell the grandchildren about.”

The Rossoblu were losing 3-0 on home turf at the 51st minute, but completed an extraordinary comeback with Rodrigo Palacio and Alberto Paloschi braces.

“We played a great game, even when we were losing 3-0. I hoped, but to be honest, I didn't believe in this result,” said Coach Ballardini.
