No fracture for Alex Sandro

Alex Sandro has not suffered any rib fractures, confirmed Juventus, but remains unlikely to face Roma in the Coppa Italia.

The full-back came off just 20 minutes into last night’s 2-1 Serie A victory over Parma in Turin.

It’s reported he had a knock to the ribs and was struggling to breathe, so asked to be substituted.

X-Rays at the J-Medical centre this morning showed no fractures, read a statement, but his condition will be evaluated on a daily basis.

Napoli ready to explode

Napoli are a powder keg after a string of defeats, with reports of Allan and Dries Mertens arguing, President Aurelio De Laurentiis furious with Gennaro Gattuso.

Since Carlo Ancelotti was sacked on December 10, the Partenopei have lost four of Gattuso’s five Serie A games in charge, including the last three in a row.

Napoli training retreat cut short

Gennaro Gattuso announced that the Napoli squad had decided to go into a training retreat last night, but it has already been cut short.

The coach said in his press conference that following a 2-0 home defeat to Fiorentina, the team had proposed going directly from the stadium to the Castel Volturno ground.

It had been assumed this was to best prepare for the upcoming Coppa Italia quarter-final with Lazio on Tuesday and next weekend’s Serie A showdown with Juventus.

Milan back to basics

Football Italia Chief Correspondent Richard Hall looks at how Stefano Pioli has reinvigorated Milan by doing the simple things well.

Gheorghe Hagi once stated that the way to win was not all about having talent. He claimed that being organised and possessing the will to succeed was just as important as quality. Having a little bit of stardust on top of that obviously helps, but the basics done correctly are essential. Milan have been through a tumultuous time in recent years and tried many innovative ideas to get them out of it. Stefano Pioli has now come in to ‘steady the ship’ and after a stormy start, he perhaps can claim success by going back to the simplest of strategies.
