Gasp is Sarri's Kryptonite

Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta won three of their last four meetings with Napoli, so Emmet Gates wonders what makes them so deadly for Maurizio Sarri.

Napoli’s 2017 was record breaking. Despite a trophy less year, Maurizio Sarri’s men collected an astounding 99 points across the 12 months, considerably more than any year in their history. On Sunday, their season resumes with a trip north to play a team and indeed a Coach that Sarri must hate the very idea of facing: Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta.

More Milan lows than highs

Evaluating Milan's season so far, it's easier to pick out the lowlights than the few high points, writes Richard Hall, but Patrick Cutrone was a beacon of hope.

Milan would have welcomed the winter break more than most, after promise turned into disappointment almost from day one. In the early summer, 60,000 turned up to watch the new and most thought improved Milan squad qualify for the Europa League via two preliminary rounds. The enthusiasm would start to drain as results worsened and the players failed to perform. Now on their second Coach of the season, they will be hoping for a better 2018.

Inter's season so far

The winter break gives Richard Hall time to assess the season so far for Inter and he has seen more highs than lows.

Luciano Spalletti arrived in the summer to much enthusiasm. He had a plan to stabilise a club that had no confidence and, despite not getting all his summer requests, he started well. Settling on a fixed XI, he navigated a tough start against Fiorentina and Roma, before taking his team on an unbeaten run that lasted to December.

A surprise defeat to Udinese and Sassuolo, however, rocked the team and has found the Tuscan unable to get the best out of his players. He will be hoping for a good start after the break has concluded.

Gasperini: 'Atalanta have belief'

Gian Piero Gasperini hailed Atalanta for an “extraordinary” 2-1 win away to Roma when down to 10 men. The lads have great belief in themselves.”

The victory came just days after knocking Napoli out of the Coppa Italia Quarter-Finals with a 2-1 away result.

“Clearly it was a game of two halves, as we dominated the first half and in the second were forced to defend when down to 10 men,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

It’s reported Torino have sacked Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic following their Coppa Italia exit to Juventus, with Walter Mazzarri an early contender to take over.

The Granata were eliminated from the Quarter-Finals, losing 2-0 at the Allianz Juventus Stadium to goals from Douglas Costa and Mario Mandzukic.

It was merely the final straw in a relationship that had become increasingly tense, as results took a downward turn.

Lombardo: 'What did referee see?'

Sinisa Mihajlovic refused to speak to the media, so Torino assistant manager Attilio Lombardo hit out at the controversial Juventus goal.

Douglas Costa hit a fierce half-volley into the top corner and Wojciech Szczesny was rarely tested in the 2-0 Coppa Italia Quarter-Final defeat, but the second goal caused a great deal of confusion.
