EDF: 'Bologna are similar to Atalanta'

Cagliari coach Eusebio Di Francesco has claimed Bologna have ‘similar style to Atalanta’ and urges his men to ‘raise their attention’ on Saturday.

The Casteddu started the season with one point in three games, but have turned things around in recent weeks.

Di Francesco’s men come from three wins on the bounce, including the 1-0 triumph over Cremonese in the Coppa Italia this week.

“The match gave me many indications, I dared a little and we did well in the first half,” Di Francesco said at a press conference.

Liverani: 'Parma need time'

Parma coach Fabio Liverani said his Gialloblu ‘need time’ but was happy with ‘the attitude’ on display in the 3-1 win against Pescara.

Yann Karamoh scored a first-half brace before Andrea Adorante added the third in the second half and Liverani was happy with how the team ‘approached’ the Coppa Italia match.

“What we are looking for is the spirit, which is growing as a team and the best thing is the attitude and the seriousness in which we approached this match,” Liverani said.

Gotti: 'Udinese had fun'

Udinese coach Luca Gotti said he saw the Friuli ‘have fun’ in the 3-1 win over Vicenza in the Coppa Italia last night.

The Friuli, who have only picked up three points in five League games so far, advanced in the Italian Cup, as Fernando Forestieri, Gerard Deulofeu and Ignacio Pussetto scored the goals at the Dacia Arena.

The coach said his team were doing ‘their utmost’ to go through and pointed out that Ilija Nestorovski did all he could to grab a goal against the Serie B side.

Coppa Italia: Fiorentina, Genoa, Verona squeeze through

There were slender Coppa Italia victories for Fiorentina, Genoa, Parma and Udinese, but Verona needed penalties to beat Venezia after a 3-3 thriller.

Fiorentina welcomed the first goals for Lorenzo Venuti and Jose Callejon, but Santini performed a stunning overhead kick to get Serie C side Padova back into it at 2-1.

Goalkeeper Emanuele Terracciano had to make a last-gasp save on Nicastro’s header to prevent it going to extra time.

Coppa Italia: Empoli eliminate Benevento

Benevento have been knocked out of the Coppa Italia in a 4-2 defeat to Empoli, while Brescia pummelled Perugia.

Pippo Inzaghi’s Benevento had been hoping to progress in the tournament, but their journey ends at the Third Round.

Serie B side Empoli came out comfortable winners and all six goals arrived in the second half.

Coppa Italia: Torino need extra time

Torino needed extra time to get past Lecce and reach the Coppa Italia Fourth Round, while Cagliari, Spezia and Cosenza also progressed.

Toro have one point from four Serie A games under coach Marco Giampaolo and the situation wasn’t much better in the Coppa Italia.

They had to come back from a Mariusz Stepinski opener to draw 1-1 with Lecce through defender Lyanco, deciding the fixture deep into extra time with Simone Verdi’s brace, including a penalty.

Torino will face Virtus Entella in the Fourth Round.

Another COVID-19 case at Parma

Parma announce that another player has tested positive for COVID-19, after he had originally recovered.

The Ducali play Pescara in the Coppa Italia today and therefore had swabs as per protocol 48 hours before kick-off.

“Parma Calcio 1913 can announce that the round of testing undertaken 24 hours ahead of today’s Coppa Italia fixture with Pescara returned negative results for every member of the team group.

“The only exception was one player, who tested positive and will therefore be unavailable for today’s game.

Coppa Italia: Monza through on penalties

Silvio Berlusconi’s 10-man Monza needed penalties to push past Pordenone and reach the Fourth Round of the Coppa Italia.

It’s remarkable they managed to get through at all, considering Edoardo Colferai received two yellow cards by the 41st minute.

Nonetheless, Monza held out and had chances to win it in both regular time and extra time.

It went to penalties and Daniele Sommariva was the hero for Monza, making two saves in the penalty shoot-out.

They will now face either Crotone or SPAL in the next round.

Coppa: Sampdoria and Bologna go through

Sampdoria squeezed past Salernitana, Bologna beat Reggina and Virtus Entella saw off Pisa in the Third Round of the Coppa Italia.

The fixtures will be played over today and tomorrow, with three already completed this afternoon.

Sampdoria had to rely on a single goal from Antonino La Gumina to get the better of high-flying Serie B outfit Salernitana.

The Blucerchiati set up a Fourth Round clash with either Catanzaro or their local rivals Genoa.

Coppa Italia: Empoli announce COVID cases

Empoli have announced ‘some cases’ of COVID-19 in the team group ahead of the Coppa Italia match against Benevento.

The Streghe host Empoli at the Ciro Vigorito tomorrow but the opponents from Serie B announced worrying news ahead of the match against the newly promoted Serie A side.

“Empoli FC announce that, following the cycle of swabs carried out on the team group yesterday, some cases of COVID-19 have been found,” the club wrote in a statement.
