Fiorentina retain Primavera Coppa Italia

Fiorentina have won their first trophy of the Rocco Commisso era, albeit at youth level, retaining the Primavera Coppa Italia.

The Viola teenagers beat Hellas Verona 1-0 in the Final this evening thanks to an Eduard Dutu header, consolidating their grip on the competition they had also won last season.

It was a great way for new Primavera coach Alberto Aquilani to begin his management career in Florence.

Inter: Zhang meets with Conte today

Decisive hours at Inter, as President Steven Zhang will meet with coach Antonio Conte today, to discuss the future at San Siro.

The Nerazzurri coach admitted his future was not certain after the Europa League Final defeat to Sevilla last Friday, and Sky Sport Italia reveals the President will meet face to face with the former Italy CT today.

The report claims Inter will not be able to promise Conte substantial investments on the transfer market and will be on a budget given the current financial situation.

Conte chasing Cup shadow

Antonio Conte has traditionally struggled in Cup competitions, so Richard Hall hopes he can break that taboo with Inter in the Europa League.

‘La maledizone della Coppa Italia’ the curse of the Coppa Italia, that is what Gazzetta called it at least. This was the tag line attributed to Antonio Conte when he was bringing consecutive titles to Juventus. It stayed with him, he could not win the Coppa, failed in Europe and eventually, as the story goes, he was replaced with Massimiliano Allegri partly because of this. Mud sticks and despite an FA Cup win in 2017-18 with Chelsea, he continues to be criticised as a man who struggles with the ‘cup format’ competition.

'Juve still want Higuain'

Gonzalo Higuain’s father, Jorge, has claimed Juventus ‘still want him’ at the Allianz Stadium and thinks the striker will see out his current contract with the Bianconeri.

The Argentine has been linked with a move back to River Plate in his homeland but Higuain’s father quashed reports of a move already this summer.

“It’s almost impossible that Higuain will play for River Plate next year,” Jorge told Planeta 947. “That Juventus no longer wants him is false.

Immobile 'impressed' by Inzaghi

Lazio forward Ciro Immobile has been impressed by Simone Inzaghi’s development as a coach and said the tactician has a ‘certainty that convinces’ the Aquile.

Inzaghi took over as caretaker at Lazio in April 2016 but was swiftly confirmed as the permanent coach at the Olimpico.

The Biancocelesti have won the Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana with Inzaghi at the helm and were involved in the Scudetto battle in 2019-20, eventually finishing fourth and qualifying for the Champions League.

Worst Juve trophy haul in eight years

For the first time since Antonio Conte’s debut campaign in 2011-12, Juventus have finished the season with just one trophy.

The Bianconeri made history with a ninth consecutive Serie A title, but the rest of the 2019-20 term will go down as a failure.

They lost the Italian Supercup clash with Lazio 3-1 in December, then the Coppa Italia Final to Napoli on penalties in June.

Last night’s Champions League exit at the hands of Olympique Lyonnais cut their European participation short at the Round of 16 stage.

Coppa Italia Final at San Siro in 2021?

The 2020-21 Coppa Italia Final is reportedly scheduled for May 19 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in Milan, commonly known as San Siro.

The tournament usually concludes at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome, but that won’t be possible next term.

This is because Euro 2020 was bumped to next summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The opening fixture of that competition is now Italy-Turkey on June 11 at the Stadio Olimpico.

UEFA need the stadium handed over to them from May 18.
