Napoli still pushing for Politano?

Napoli are reportedly still keen on signing Sassuolo winger Matteo Politano and could target Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira in the summer.

Sassuolo are playing hardball with Politano, but Gianluca Di Marzio’s website claims that has not stopped Napoli from ‘pressing’ for the 24-year-old.

Partenopei President Aurelio De Laurentiis would have met Sassuolo sporting director Giovanni Carnevali, with the transfer expert adding the Neroverdi have already identified a replacement in Sampdoria wideman Gianluca Caprari.

Consequently, the Uruguayan will travel to Emilia-Romagna on Monday afternoon, before undergoing a medical with the Neroverdi the following morning.

The islanders also confirmed the 22-year-old was leaving on loan, although there was no mention of whether the deal included an option to buy for Sassuolo.

Napoli dealt Politano blow

Napoli have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Matteo Politano as Sassuolo insist they will only consider selling the winger in the summer.

Politano has moved to the top of Napoli’s wideman wishlist for January, but Giovanni Carnevali made it clear Sassuolo were under no pressure to sell the former Roma attacker.

“Matteo’s a very important player, but Sassuolo’s philosophy is to never deprive ourselves of our most precious players midseason,” the CEO told Tuttosport.

“They are well-organised and an impressive team that are tough for anyone to face. There were some good things from my players, some not so good and areas where we can improve.

Dzeko out, Babacar in?

Khouma Babacar seems intent on leaving Fiorentina, but Roma or Sassuolo seem more likely than Crystal Palace or Everton, as he could replace Edin Dzeko.

The Senegal international striker has found the net five times with two assists this season in only 17 appearances, most of them as a substitute.

He will struggle to get past Giovanni Simeone in the pecking order, so is eager for a move away from Florence in the January transfer window.
