Verratti: 'If Italy played like this...'

Marco Verratti believes if Italy had played with their current approach, they would’ve “without doubt” qualified for the 2018 World Cup.

The Nazionale dominated Greece 3-0 in Athens to maintain their perfect start to Euro 2020 qualifying, winning all three by scoring 11 goals and conceding none.

“It was a good performance, as we defended well, kept possession and I think it was a great victory,” the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder told Tuttomercatoweb.

Cragno replaces Olsen at Roma?

Sweden international Robin Olsen is reportedly on his way out of Roma after just one year, with Alessio Cragno first choice to step in.

The shot-stopper was signed from FC Copenhagen for €9m as a replacement for Alisson Becker, but despite some occasional good saves, has largely been criticised by fans and media in Italy for howlers.

Olsen is named as one of the biggest mistakes by former director of sport Monchi, who walked away after Coach Eusebio Di Francesco was fired.

Bologna defender out for a month

Bad news for Bologna, as Sweden international Filip Helander has been ruled out for a month with a knee ligament injury.

The defender sprained his right knee during a training session on Thursday and tests showed there is also some damage to the collateral lateral ligament.

He is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks.

It’s a blow for Bologna, who are already without Rodrigo Palacio for several weeks.

Giampiero Ventura claims he ‘stopped going to Ikea’ after Italy’s World Cup playoff defeat to Sweden.

Ventura became public enemy in Italy following their failure to qualify for the Russian showpiece, and the 70-year-old revealed just how personally he took the Azzurri’s elimination.

“After Italy-Sweden, I stopped going to Ikea,” he continued to Radio Anch’io Sport.

“It’s difficult to dispose of the disappointment. What happened was something era-defining.

Official: Sampdoria sign Ekdal

Sampdoria have officially signed Sweden international midfielder Albin Ekdal from Hamburger SV.

The player’s contract has been deposited with the Lega Serie A this afternoon.

He already passed his medical and the deal was believed to be worth €2.5m plus another €300,000 in performance-related bonuses.

It is a return to Serie A for the 29-year-old, who already played for Juventus, Siena, Bologna and Cagliari.

Ekdal moved to Hamburg in 2015 for €4.5m.
