Ronaldo rage at phantom Portugal goal

Cristiano Ronaldo was so furious after a Portugal winner wasn’t given against Serbia that he threw his captain’s armband to the ground.

There is no VAR in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers and bizarrely goal-line technology is only used in stadiums that have already activated it.

That means some games can benefit from the technology we now take for granted and others do not.

Portugal had a 2-0 lead in Serbia through Diogo Jota’s brace, but fumbled it for a 2-2 draw.

Nicolato blames 'match fitness' for Azzurrini flop

Italy U21 coach Paolo Nicolato insists a lack of ‘match fitness’ was behind their disappointing 1-1 Czech Republic result, but Sandro Tonali and Riccardo Marchizza are suspended against Spain.

The Azzurrini dominated the first half of this opening European Under-21 Championship fixture and took the lead through Gianluca Scamacca, wasted chances, then the intensity fell as time wore on, culminating in an unlucky Giulio Maggiore own goal.

This was the opening game of the U21 Euros, while elsewhere in the group Spain crushed Slovenia 3-0 with Roma’s Gonzalo Villar on target.

The Czechs had the first huge chance when a free kick was knocked down for Andrej Lingr, but Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi made a stunning reaction save from point-blank range.

Czech FA: Ronaldo has not broken Bican's record

The Czech football federation claims Josef Bican scored 821 official goals and not 759, meaning Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has not broken his record.

The Portuguese superstar scored his 760th career goal in the 2-0 win over Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana on Wednesday.

Opta has registered 759 goals for Bican and Ronaldo thus broke his all-time goalscoring record for club and country.

But the Czech football federation published a statement with an updated number and claims Ronaldo must score 62 more goals to overcome their hero.

But the Giallorossi are not willing to part ways with the forward for less than €29m, previously agreed in the loan deal with an option to buy.
