Balague: 'Ronaldo desperate for affection'

Cristiano Ronaldo’s biographer Guillem Balague believes the star will find the “unconditional and unanimous affection” he craves at Juventus.

The Ballon d’Or winner was distraught after the harsh red card in his Champions League opener against Valencia, bursting into tears.

However, the reaction from teammates, Coach, the fans and even President Andrea Agnelli – who tweeted an image of the others lifting a weeping Ronaldo off the ground with the caption: ‘One for all and all for one’ – seemingly surprised him.

Altobelli: 'No Italy experiments'

Former Italy hitman Alessandro ‘Spillo’ Altobelli has urged Roberto Mancini to shelve the “experiments” in the Nations League.

The Azzurri currently prop up the group after a 1-1 home draw with Poland and 1-0 defeat to Portugal.

Even though this tournament has a real influence on qualification for Euro 2020 and the FIFA ranking, which could give an easier draw in future, Mancini changed nine of his 10 outfield players from one game to the other.

Santos: 'Pace caused Italy problems'

Portugal Coach Fernando Santos told his side that pace was the key to beating Italy, but isn’t counting his Nations League chickens yet.

This was their debut in the Nations League, while the Azzurri drew 1-1 with Poland before tonight’s 1-0 result in Lisbon.

“It was about as difficult as I expected, as I knew the quality of both my team and Italy. We were aware that if we upped the tempo, we’d create problems,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

Italy's midfield is missing

After defeat in Portugal, Adam Digby looks at how an incoherent midfield remains Italy’s biggest problem and one that Roberto Mancini must address.

There is perhaps some irony seeing Claudio Marchisio showing off his new Zenit St Petersburg shirt just days before the latest outing for the Italian national team.

When the former Juventus man pulls on the sky blue kit of the Russian Premier League side, he will no longer wear the No.8 shirt that had long been on the back of his Bianconero one. Instead it will be a 10, and on Monday evening in Lisbon, the Azzurri lacked both a player fit to wear that most prestigious of numbers and any representative from the midfielder’s former club.

Lazzari: 'Hoped for different debut'

SPAL wing-back Manuel Lazzari had “hoped for a different debut” after Italy lost 1-0 to Portugal in the Nations League.

“I honestly hoped for a different debut, but we faced a very strong side and even without Cristiano Ronaldo they have so much quality in attack,” he told Rai Sport.

“It’s an important experience for me, we were up against the reigning European Champions and we only conceded on the counter-attack.
