Report: Kumbulla to sign five-year deal at Roma

Roma are reportedly on the verge of signing a five-year contract with Marash Kumbulla from Hellas Verona and won’t give up on reaching an agreement with Manchester United over Chris Smalling.

Sky Sport Italia reveals Kumbulla has come to terms with the Giallorossi and is expected to sign a deal until June 2025, moving from Verona on loan with an obligation to buy.

Reports in Italian media suggested La Lupa had therefore given up on bringing the former England international Smalling back to the Italian capital.

Roma drop Smalling, secure Kumbulla

Roma are ready to drop talks with Manchester United for Chris Smalling and are close to a deal for Hellas Verona defender Marash Kumbulla.

According to Sky Sport Italia, a deal was struck quickly with Verona, a loan with obligation to buy worth a total of €30m.

Manchester United rejected the latest offer for Smalling and Roma lost patience, moving on to a different objective.

Inter had locked down Kumbulla, but decided to release him from that promise.

Man Utd see Perisic as Sancho alternative

Manchester United are again interested in Inter outcast Ivan Perisic as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho, claim reports in England.

The Old Trafford side had repeatedly targeted Perisic when Jose Mourinho was in charge, but could not agree terms with the club.

Instead, the Croatian went to Bayern Munich on loan, helping them win the Treble including the Champions League, but the Germans did not activate their option to buy.

Leicester targeting Cengiz Under

Roma winger Cengiz Under is attracting interest from Manchester United, Newcastle, but above all Leicester City.

The Turkey international is on the market, having barely featured last season under coach Paulo Fonseca.

He was in advanced talks with Napoli as part of Roma’s bid for Arkadiusz Milik, but that seems to have been dropped for now.

According to The Sun newspaper and Inside Futbol, Leicester are the new favourites to sign Under with a bid worth €25m.

Smalling in the balance for Roma

Roma have seen another proposal for Chris Smalling rejected by Manchester United and are starting to consider other options, it’s reported.

There was hope the deal could be done on loan with obligation to buy for a total of €11.5m, but it seems as if that too has been turned down.

It’s reported the bid was eventually just under that, at €9.5m plus €2m in bonuses.

Manchester United continue to demand €20m for the centre-back, who has his heart set on the Stadio Olimpico after an excellent season on loan.

Juventus stuck with Douglas Costa

Juventus are having difficulty finding a buyer for Douglas Costa, with reports his only firm proposals are from China and Qatar.

The 30-year-old is not part of the Bianconeri’s plans and they had hoped to raise precious funds with his sale this summer.

However, Calciomercato.com note that the offers expected from Manchester United, Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich have either not materialised, or are considerably lower than the €50m asking price.

Smalling ready for Roma return

Chris Smalling is edging closer to his Roma return on a permanent basis for a total of just €12m from Manchester United.

The defender spent last season at the Stadio Olimpico on loan and was probably their best centre-back, rediscovering his confidence and form.

There was no option to buy, so negotiations were fraught with difficulty and Manchester United wouldn’t even allow him to remain for the Europa League campaign in August.

Tuttosport: Pogba waiting for Juventus

Rumours of a swing back to the Bianconeri have been circling from practically months since he left and nobody has kept those going more than Tuttosport.
