Pogba has COVID-19

France have excluded Paul Pogba from the upcoming UEFA Nations League games, after the Manchester United midfielder tests positive for COVID-19.

France CT Didier Deschamps confirmed the former Juventus hero, who has of course been linked with a return to Turin this summer, has tested positive for coronavirus.

He will therefore miss the games against Sweden and Croatia in the Nations League, on September 5 and 8 respectively.

Report: Man City meeting for Messi

Reports claim Manchester City have a meeting with Lionel Messi’s father, while Inter, PSG and Manchester United are also in the running after handing in his Barcelona transfer demand.

The club legend wants to leave after the 8-2 Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, arrival of new coach Ronald Koeman and growing sense of unease at Camp Nou.

The favourites would appear to be Manchester City, as Pep Guardiola already worked with Messi at Barcelona.

Why Inter have Messi 'advantage' over Man City

Mundo Deportivo claim that Inter ‘have a clear advantage over PSG, Manchester City and Manchester United’ in the race to sign Lionel Messi because of a tax law.

The club legend sent a fax today demanding he be released from his contract a year early as a free agent, although Barcelona maintain the clause allowing that has expired.

If he does leave, then there are only a select number of European clubs who can afford to pay his wages.

Report: Roma offer €17m for Smalling

Roma are reportedly offering €17m to complete a permanent move for Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling.

The former England international spent 2019-20 in Rome and has convinced the Giallorossi to work hard for his permanent transfer to the Olimpico.

But the Red Devils are reportedly expecting €20m for the 30-year-old, despite La Lupa’s desperate attempts to haggle.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Roma are delivering a new offer to Manchester United, hoping to reach an agreement at a total tally of €17m.

Roma keep pushing for Smalling

Roma won’t give up on signing Manchester United centre-back Chris Smalling, but the €20m asking price is still the main obstacle.

The Corriere della Sera claims CEO Guido Fienga wants to give Paulo Fonseca the former England international on a permanent deal.

But Manchester United are not lowering the asking price of €20m after reported offers from West Ham, Newcastle and Fulham.

But the report claims Smalling has rejected offers from other Premier League clubs and wants a return to the Italian capital.

Gabriel to Arsenal: Done deal

It is now clear that Gabriel Magalhaes will sign for Arsenal, as Napoli took a step back, with multiple reports confident the Lille defender will sign tonight.

Lille had essentially agreed a transfer fee with Napoli, Arsenal and even Everton at €30m, including various bonuses.

The Partenopei had the upper hand, but were unable to complete the move, as they first had to sell Kalidou Koulibaly, Arkadiusz Milik or Nikola Maksimovic.

Napoli leave Gabriel to Arsenal

Lille defender Gabriel is increasingly likely to join Arsenal, as Napoli turn their focus towards Shakhtar Donetsk defender Mykola Matvienko.

The Partenopei have a gentleman’s agreement to sign Gabriel for €26m plus bonuses, but cannot make the move until Kalidou Koulibaly has been sold to Manchester City.

The negotiations for that transfer are dragging on and Sky Sport Italia, Sportitalia and more report Arsenal are taking advantage of the situation by increasing their bid for Gabriel.

Competition grows for Gabriel

Napoli are increasingly marginalised in the race for Lille defender Gabriel, as after Arsenal and Manchester United, now PSG are involved.

Italian and French reports had a deal done with Napoli worth €28m plus bonuses, but it could not be completed until either Kalidou Koulibaly or Arkadiusz Milik had first been sold.

As both those deals – Koulibaly to Manchester United, Milik to either Roma or Juventus – are dragging on, the Partenopei are stuck.
