Giovinco vs Pirlo for MLS history

With Sebastian Giovinco and Andrea Pirlo set to play the biggest match of their MLS careers, Marco D'Onofrio sets the scene.

By 5.30pm on a Wednesday evening, you couldn't find a single seat in any one of the numerous pubs in Toronto's Liberty Village. Toronto FC was just two hours away from their first ever home playoff match, and fans left work early to flock to the neighbourhood surrounding the stadium in anticipation of the spectacle that was to come.

Don't ignore Giovinco

He may have left Italy nearly two years ago, but Marco D'Onofrio argues Sebastian Giovinco still has so much to give.

Unless you live in Toronto or follow Major League Soccer, it's easy to forget Sebastian Giovinco is even still playing professional football. Despite only being 29 years old, the Atomic Ant has become rather irrelevant to many who watch the Italian top flight. After all, he did leave Turin almost two years ago and didn't have the greatest of exits after struggling to solidify a spot in Massimiliano Allegri's side.

Samp and Torino target Bradley

Sampdoria and Torino are trying to bring ex-Roma and Chievo midfielder Michael Bradley back to Serie A.

The USA international turns 29 next week and left Italy to play for Toronto FC in January 2014.

According to the Corriere dello Sport newspaper, both Samp and Toro are eager to lure him across the Atlantic this summer.

The main concern is represented by his current wages, which are out of reach for lower-mid-table clubs.

Bradley is well-travelled, playing in America, Holland, Germany, England, Italy and Canada.

Milan and Roma eye Giovinco?

Toronto FC star Sebastian Giovinco could return to Serie A for Milan or Roma, according to Italian reports.

The Atomic Ant missed out on Euro 2016 largely because he plays in MLS, as confirmed by Coach Antonio Conte.

Now calciomercato.it claim 29-year-old Giovinco is the subject of interest from two big Serie A clubs.

Milan have stated they want to create a squad based on Italian talent and have already snapped up Gianluca Lapadula from Pescara.

Giovinco: 'I'm happy at Toronto'

Sebastian Giovinco acknowledges being at Toronto FC hurt his Italy chances, as “unfortunately it wasn’t enough to go to Euro 2016.”

The Atomic Ant was not picked for the Azzurri despite the dearth of reliable forwards.

“Why am I not in the Nazionale? I asked myself that too,” Giovinco told SportItalia.

“I think it’s down to the type of choice I made. I think that I proved I am in good shape, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to go to Euro 2016.

Sebastian Giovinco targets Euro 2016 with Italy - “If I play well, Antonio Conte will notice”.

The diminutive forward moved to Toronto FC in January 2015, and has since gone on to score 26 goals in just 39 Major League Soccer games.

“Am I aiming for Euro 2016?” Giovinco considered in an interview with the Guardian.

“Of course, yes. If I play well, Conte, or whoever it may be, will notice because people aren’t just looking at players in Europe now. They’re looking everywhere.

Giovinco record hurts Thohir

Sebastian Giovinco scores the fastest goal in Toronto FC's history, defeating Erick Thohir's DC United.

Yesterday's game ended 1-0 for the Italian emigre's team, and the early goal proved decisive.

The Atomic Ant scored after a mere 52 seconds of playing time, beating the record formerly detained by Reggie Lambe at one minute and fifty seconds.

The victory had repercussions on someone in Serie A too, as the owner of DC United is also Inter's President Erick Thohir.
