Swiss goalposts cause delay

In Italy’s 2022 World Cup qualifying group, Switzerland’s game against Lithuania was delayed because one of the goals was the wrong size.

The bizarre incident occurred just before kick-off, as the UEFA officials during their pitch inspector spotted the goalposts were 5-10cm too high.

The staff in the Kybunpark in St Gallen had to remove the goalposts, taken them away and install some spares they had in the stadium.

It finally kicked off over 15 minutes late.

Italy will be 2022 qualifying top seeds

Italy are already guaranteed top seed status in the 2022 World Cup qualifying draw, as Switzerland were held 1-1 by Spain and can’t catch them.

The Azzurri had organised their 4-0 friendly win over Estonia in order to boost their FIFA ranking and it worked.

Because Switzerland failed to beat Spain in last night’s Nations League encounter, in which Sergio Ramos had two penalties saved, it means they cannot catch up to Italy in time.

The draw for the 2022 World Cup qualifying groups will be next month and the Nazionale will be top seeds.

With Gennaro Gattuso at Napoli now, Milan full-back Ricardo Rodriguez’s agent warns he wants to leave in January. “He has to play and would follow Gattuso anwhere.”
