Darmian looks to impress Mourinho

Manchester United’s Matteo Darmian insists he will be ready to play any role Jose Mourinho asks him to this season.

The versatile 26-year-old joined the Red Devils last summer but only played a bit part role last term, making 28 appearances in all competitions.

Speaking to the Premier League club’s official website, the Italy international also acknowledged that competition for first team places at Old Trafford will be strong.

“I think it is good to have a healthy rivalry when you are part of a great squad,” Darmian said.

Italy must reshape its roster to regain international success. Vincent van Genechten evaluates the new blood coming through in defence and midfield.

GOALKEEPER

Mattia Perin (22, Genoa)

Perin has been hailed as the next great Italian goalkeeper ever since he joined Genoa in 2008. He was sent to Padova and Pescara on loan, where Perin impressed despite only recording nine clean sheets in two seasons. But in his first two terms with Genoa, he kept 18 clean sheets in Serie A 69 starts. His transfer value has soared from €6.5m to €17.5m in two years and Perin made his Italy debut in 2014. He is developing as expected, though is currently out after shoulder surgery.
