Duncan: 'Roma win decided beforehand'

Sassuolo midfielder Alfred Duncan claims their defeat to Roma “was decided beforehand” after goal-line technology ruled out a potential equaliser by millimetres.

The Neroverdi eventually lost 3-1, but it was only 1-0 when Patrik Schick’s clumsy clearance from a corner bounced off the crossbar and back out.

Goal-line technology did not send out an alert, because there was a millimetre or two still hovering above the line.

Serie A: video replays summit

FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio held a summit with Lega Serie A and B over the upcoming introduction of video replays.

The International Football Association Board is introducing new regulations that will allow for the use of video replays by referees during the match.

Serie A to test video replays

The FIGC has announced that Italian football will test the use of video replays in officiating.

The International Football Association Board [IFAB] “agreed in principle” last month to test the use of video refereeing over the next two seasons.

Today it has been confirmed that Italian football will be one of the testers, starting from next season.

FIFA begin video replay tests

FIFA announced a “historic day for football” as experimentation begins for video assistance to referees, likely to be in Serie B.

New FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed the news today, calling it “an historic day for football. We are leading the debate, not stopping the debate. We’re listening to football.”

There will be at least two years of experiments before it is implemented in major tournaments.

Tech for Champions and Europa Finals

UEFA will use goal-line technology in this season’s Champions League and Europa League Finals.

The system is widely used in the big European Leagues and will be introduced for all the knockout rounds of the Champions League next term.

However, UEFA have decided to bring forward the introduction of the technology so it can be used in this season’s Finals.

It was announced along with news Theodore Theodorisis has been named acting general secretary of UEFA.

His predecessor Gianni Infantino was elected President of FIFA last week.

Goal-line technology spreads

UEFA have officially agreed to use goal-line technology at Euro 2016 and next season’s Champions League.

The system has already been used successfully at the 2014 World Cup and in Serie A, Ligue 1, the Bundesliga and the Premier League.

Today UEFA’s Executive Committee confirmed goal-line technology will be implemented at the upcoming European Championships in France.

It’ll also be used in the Champions League from next season, but only from the knockout stages and not the group games.

Video evidence can begin trials

The International Football Association Board has given the go-ahead to experiment video assistance for match officials.

Italian pundits have long been calling for the so-called ‘moviola in campo’ – video replays used during a game situation to help analyse complex and fast-moving incidents.

Today the IFAB held its annual meeting in London and the Board of Directors “gave a strong recommendation for experiments to be given the green light.

Goal-line technology debut set

Goal-line technology will make its Italian debut in the Trofeo TIM between Inter, Milan and Sassuolo on August 12.

This traditional summer tournament sees each side face off in 45-minute games to decide an eventual winner.

It will take place at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, Sassuolo’s home arena, and represents the debut for goal-line technology in Italy.

The system will be used in all Serie A matches for the 2015-16 campaign.

It was pushed through after several controversial incidents last term.

Panels discuss video replays

Panels met this week to discuss introducing video replays into the sport to help referees and a fourth substitution.

The two panels were set up to advise the International Football Association Board (IFAB) on potential changes to the laws of the game.

The Football Advisory Panel and Technical Advisory Panel met in London on Monday and Tuesday.

Among the subjects discussed were the introduction of a fourth substitution and the use of video replays to support match officials.
