Izzo investigated in fixing scandal

Ten have been arrested as a Serie B match-fixing scandal erupts, while Genoa’s Armando Izzo is under investigation for colluding with the Mafia.

La Repubblica reports that the Naples police arrested 10 people this morning from the ‘Vanella Grassi’ Camorra group following an investigation by the anti-mafia investigative agency into betting activity on Serie B matches.

The police have discovered that some matches from the 2013/14 Serie B season were altered by the group.

Serie B: Cagliari title, Livorno relegated
Livorno and Modena are relegated to Lega Pro, while Lanciano go into the play-outs after a dramatic head-to-head, while Cagliari win the Serie B title.
 
The promotion play-offs will be between Trapani, Pescara, Cesena, Bari, Spezia and Novara.
 
The final round of the regular season was played simultaneously this evening and the tension was evident by the number of red cards, including very controversial refereeing decisions at Modena and Livorno.
 
The biggest drama was in Livorno

Palladino: 'Marvellous Crotone'

Raffaele Palladino had been on the verge of retirement, but scored the goal that put Crotone into Serie A. “It’s a unique feeling.”

The striker was considered a bright hope for Italian football when he was at Juventus, but went on to spells at Salernitana, Livorno, Genoa and Parma.

He was without a club following Parma’s bankruptcy in July 2015 and in November signed a contract for tiny Calabrian side Crotone.

Zamparini swaps Palermo for Modena?

President Maurizio Zamparini may sell Palermo and buy Serie B club Modena, say reports.

The rambunctious Rosanero president, who was sanctioned today for his latest controversial remarks, appears set to make another dramatic move, this time of a financial nature.

According to La Gazzetta di Modena, Zamparini is looking to sell his current club and buy Modena instead, replacing current owner Antonio Caliendo.

Crespo’s wife slams Modena

Hernan Crespo’s wife has hit out at Modena, claiming the Coach was working for free before his sacking.

The former striker was dismissed this weekend after a late defeat to Cagliari left the Canarini just a point above the relegation zone.

Now CalcioNews24 reports that Alessia Crespo told fans her husband “had been working for free up to now” in a heated confrontation.

Serie B: Modena sack Crespo

Serie B side Modena sacked Coach Hernan Crespo after angry fans stormed the Press room.

The Canarini are now just one point clear of the relegation zone after 10 wins, five draws and 18 defeats.

This afternoon they were leading Cagliari 1-0 until the 93rd minute, conceding again at the 95th for a 2-1 home defeat.

Operation Offside scandal erupts

The breaking tax evasion scandal named ‘Operation Offside’ reportedly involves 35 Serie A and B clubs and more than 100 players and agents.

News broke this morning of an inquiry that had been set up by the Naples public prosecutor to investigate tax evasion and false invoicing.

Further details are now emerging about the scale of the scandal, with Calcio e Finanza reporting that finance authorities in Italy are carrying out searches and have seized around €12m worth of assets.

Tax evasion inquiry hits calcio

Lazio and Napoli owners Claudio Lotito and Aurelio De Laurentiis and Milan vice-President Adriano Galliani are reported suspects in a tax evasion inquiry.

Reports from La Repubblica emerged today that the Naples public prosecutor’s office has opened an inquiry into tax evasion and false invoicing in Italian football.

Lotito, De Laurentiis and Galliani have been named as suspects along with the likes of Modena Coach Hernan Crespo and PSG winger Ezequiel Lavezzi.

Official: Palermo sign Cionek

Palermo have officially completed the signing of Polish international defender Thiago Cionek.

The 29-year-old was born in Brazil, but is of Polish descent, and made his international debut for them in 2014.

Cionek has been in Italy since 2012, and signs from Modena, having also represented Padova.

“The Rosanero announces the signing of Thiago Cionek from Modena,” a statement on Palermo’s website read.

Modena: ‘Carpi ridiculous and defamatory’

Modena hit back at Carpi in a stadium row - “this situation is ridiculous, defamatory and hugely damaging.”

The Biancorossi were surprised to find themselves locked out of Stadio Alberto Braglia when arriving for training yesterday afternoon.

The newly-promoted side are sharing the stadium with Modena this season, as their own Stadio Sandro Cabassi is not equipped for Serie A football.
