New COVID clampdown on sport

COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Italy, so Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte ordered new limits on sport, playing games behind closed doors again.

The Serie A fixtures had been allowed up to 1,000 supporters in the stands so far this season, but from next weekend, it will go back to a totally empty arena.

Conte presented the latest Government decree on Saturday evening, which will shut down all amateur sport.

Only Serie A, B, C and D clubs can continue in the world of football.

Pirlo: 'Dybala starts, Morata no surprise'

Toni: 'Armed robbers broke into home'

World Cup winner Luca Toni confirms he and his family were the victims of an armed robbery at their home. ‘The most important thing is that my family is ok.’

The former Fiorentina, Bayern Munich and Verona striker made a statement on Instagram.

“Seeing as the story is circulating, I wanted to confirm that on Thursday evening between 19.30 and 21.30 I was robbed at home by three burglars who were wearing ski masks and had weapons.

The referees for Serie A Week 5 have been announced and the AIA has given Milan-Roma to Piero Giacomelli, as Fabrizio Pasqua oversees Juventus-Verona.

The 42-year-old referee from Trieste, Giacomelli, has been given the big match on Monday night, when the Giallorossi travels to Milan.

It’s Giacomelli’s second appointment in Serie A 2020-21, after having been in charge of Fiorentina-Sampdoria on October 2.
