Football Italia was among the accredited media at San Siro on Monday when the Nerazzurri won a historic 20th Scudetto after a 2-1 victory over city rivals Milan. Here are three things you didn’t see on TV.
Fans’ mockeries
It was a true derby atmosphere before, during and after the match. Inter and Milan fans taunted each other all the time, but there was never tension in the stands or outside the stadium. Despite the rivalry, there is mutual respect between fans of the Milanese clubs so there were no clashes or incidents around the stadium. That being said, Inter and Milan supporters mocked each other, starting with warmups and choreographies before kick-off. The Curva Nord and Sud exposed more banners during the match. At some point in the first half, the Rossoneri ultras told their rivals that they should be celebrating the 19th Scudetto, given that one was assigned to them by default in 2006 after Juventus were relegated to Serie B in the Calciopoli scandal. The Rossoneri linked Inter with Juventus again minutes before the final whistle, showing an Old Lady’s logo with Inter colours and a message that read:’You lose final, steal leagues. You’ve become everything you always hated.’ On the other hand, Inter ultras replied with a giant banner during celebrations with their players. The message read: ‘Tell the Madonnina, there are champions and those who cry.’ Nerazzurri supporters had already trolled the Rossoneri before kick-off by singing ‘You’ll win the title’ and ‘Pioli is on fire.’

Dimarco
It was a special night for Federico Dimarco. A product of the club academy, the Italy international returned to Inter in 2021 after a one-year loan at Hellas Verona, so he hadn’t yet won the Scudetto with the Nerazzurri. The 26-year-old seemed not bothered by insults from Milan fans, but he was electric when subbed off in the second half. Dimarco waved at Nerazzurri ultras in Curva Nord, who were shouting his name. Dimarco spent a few seconds talking to his replacement, Carlos Augusto, on the touchline, giving him some quick instructions and then hugging Inzaghi and many of his teammates on the bench before waving at Inter’s Curva again.
Theo and Dumfries
Theo Hernandez and Denzel Dumfries were sent off at minute 93. The Dutch defender had entered the field only a few minutes earlier and none of their teammates managed to drag them apart during the confrontation. On the contrary, more Inter and Milan players joined the clash. You may not have seen on TV that Theo Hernandez was the first to leave the pitch and was followed by his rival just a few meters behind him. Inter staff members feared Dumfries would chase Theo again inside the tunnel, so a few of them blocked him before he went inside to slow him down and avoid further consequences from the sports judge.
