Highlights: Spezia 1-4 Sassuolo

Francesco Caputo had the ball in the net four times, but only one of them eventually counted in an eventful Sassuolo victory, marking Spezia’s first ever Serie A game.

It was an exciting match in Cesena, with two teams determined to attack from start to finish.

Djuricic opened the scoring with a fantastic solo effort, including a nutmeg to stroke it in from the tightest of angles.

De Zerbi: 'Stronger second half'

Roberto De Zerbi admits Sassuolo ‘struggled’ in the first half against Spezia before running riot with a 4-1 final result.

The Neroverdi won the game 4-1, although Francesco Caputo had three goals ruled offside via VAR as well.

“We knew it was going to be a difficult game, as Spezia were making history with their first ever Serie A match, so they’d give everything they had,” the coach told DAZN.

Italiano: 'Different quality in Serie A'

Spezia coach Vincenzo Italiano admits his debutants immediately realised the ‘difference in quality’ between Serie A and B after losing 4-1 to Sassuolo.

It was ultimately a 4-1 result for the Neroverdi, but could’ve been a far heavier scoreline, as Francesco Caputo had three goals disallowed by VAR.

Spezia boss Italiano pens renewal

Spezia have announced that coach Vincenzo Italiano has extended his contract until 2022.

Italiano led Spezia to their first-ever promotion to Serie A and caught the attention of Genoa during preseason.

However, the former Verona midfielder opted to stay put and he has now proved his commitment, signing on for two more years.

The 42-year-old only received his badges to coach in the top flight last week, alongside Juventus boss Andrea Pirlo.
