Italy rise in world rankings

Italy have climbed above Wales in the FIFA World Rankings after the latest international break, and now sit 18th.

The Azzurri fell out of the top 20 for the first time ever earlier this year, as missing out on the World Cup took them to a worst-ever ranking.

The November international break brought a Nations League draw with Poland and a friendly win over the USA, and that proved enough to move above Wales.

Italy now sit 18th in the rankings, one place above Giggs’ side and a place behind Mexico.

Italy have climbed one place to 19th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, following the Nations League win over Poland.

Over the most recent international break the Azzurri drew with Ukraine in a friendly, before beating the Poles with a late goal from Cristiano Biraghi.

Having fallen out of the top 20 earlier this year, Italy have climbed one place to 19th, with Poland dropping three places after they also lost to Portugal.

Italy must play the rankings game

The Azzurri have never taken friendly matches particularly seriously, but Gaby McKay says that has to change.

Earlier this year, for the first time in the nation’s illustrious football history, Italy fell outside of the top 20 teams on FIFA’s world rankings.

For a nation which has won the World Cup four times in history, second only to Brazil, it was quite the ignominious fall, if not a surprising one. Giampiero Ventura’s side failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, losing to Sweden in a play-off, meaning the Italians were at home for the first time since 1958.

Italy outside world top 20

Italy have dropped two places in the latest FIFA world rankings, falling outside the top 20 for the first time ever.

The Azzurri failed to qualify for this summer’s World Cup, and were sitting in 19th place before the tournament.

Today the new rankings have been released which see Italy fall to 21st in the world, the first time since the FIFA rankings were introduced that they’ve been outside the top 20.

The national team now sits below Peru and above the USA, with France ranked as the best team in the world after winning the World Cup.

Italy fall to worst-ever world ranking

Italy have fallen six places in the latest FIFA rankings, to an all-time worst position of 20th.

The Azzurri failed to qualify for this summer’s World Cup, going out to Sweden in a play-off after finishing behind Spain in their group.

The March friendlies brought a loss to Argentina and a draw with England, and the national team continues to slide down the FIFA rankings.

Italy are now in 20th position in the rankings, the lowest they’ve been since the system was introduced.

Italy stay 14th in FIFA rankings

Italy have stayed 14th in the latest FIFA World Rankings, sandwiched between Colombia and Croatia.

The Azzurri failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, having been defeated by Sweden in the play-offs.

That will see them fall during the summer as other nations pick up points, but with no international fixtures since the last rankings there has been no change in the top 14.

That means Italy remain in 14th place, with Croatia moving above England and Mexico to sit behind the Azzurri in 15th.

Italy stay 14th in FIFA rankings

Italy have remained 14th in FIFA’s latest world rankings, with Germany still leading the way.

The Azzurri failed to reach next summer’s World Cup, but nonetheless still rose one place to 14th in the previous set of rankings.

Given that those were published at the end of November and there have been no major international matches since then, the top sides haven’t moved.

That means Italy remain 14th, with Germany top ahead of Brazil, Portugal and Argentina.

Italy climb in FIFA rankings

Italy have climbed above England in the latest FIFA World Rankings - despite failing to reach the World Cup.

The Azzurri were beaten 1-0 on aggregate by Sweden in the play-off earlier this month, meaning they failed to qualify for the first time in 60 years.

However, FIFA has today published its latest world rankings, with Italy climbing one place to 14th, leapfrogging England who dropped three places.

Italy slide in FIFA rankings

Italy have dropped five places in the latest FIFA rankings, and are now ranked below Peru and Wales.

The Azzurri were beaten 3-0 by Spain at the Bernabeu in their World Cup qualifier, before recording a 1-0 win over Israel.

Those results have seen the national team slide from 12th place to 17th place, with Peru, Wales, Uruguay, England and Mexico moving above them.

It’s Italy’s worst position in the rankings since 2015, when they dropped to 17th in July of that year.

Italy stay 12th in FIFA rankings

Italy have remained in 12th position in the latest FIFA rankings, with Brazil returning to top spot.

There was no change in the Azzurri’s position from the most recent rankings, given they haven’t played since beating Liechtenstein 5-0 on June 11.

Giampiero Ventura’s side therefore remain between Spain in 10th and England in 12th in the world rankings.

Brazil have returned to the top of the list, leapfrogging Germany, with Argentina in third place and Switzerland in fourth.
