Yoshida: 'Keep Samp up, then...'

Southampton loanee Maya Yoshida says it is ‘too early’ to gauge whether he will stay at Sampdoria as he first wants to keep them in Serie A.

Yoshida moved to Samp on loan in January and played just once before the coronavirus pandemic brought the season to a halt.

“I had only a few hours to decide. I talked to Manolo [Gabbiadini] and, after signing, Gaston [Ramirez],” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Southampton watching Scamacca

Southampton and Benfica have reportedly been tracking Sassuolo-owned striker Gianluca Scamacca, who is currently on loan at Ascoli.

The Italy Under-21 international is already surprisingly experienced, with time spent at Lazio, Roma and PSV Eindhoven youth academies.

Sassuolo snapped him up in January 2017 and he has since gone out on loan to Cremonese, PEC Zwolle and Ascoli.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Benfica had already been linked with Scamacca in January, but now Southampton are keeping up to date with his progress too.

'Leaving Lazio was a mistake'

Southampton outcast Wesley Hoedt says he regrets leaving Lazio for the Saints, describing the move as a ‘mistake’.

Hoedt spent two seasons with Lazio, playing 61 times and winning the Supercoppa, before joining Southampton in 2017 as a replacement for Virgil van Dijk.

However, the €17m transfer has not worked out and he is currently on loan at Belgian side Antwerp.

“[Ralph Hasenhuttl] told me he wanted to give me a second chance, but I never got one, to begin with,” the Netherlands defender told Sport/Foot Magazine.
