Del Piero: ‘Why Dybala doesn’t start’

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero believes Paulo Dybala doesn’t start for the Old Lady because of his physical shape and warns Andrea Pirlo about his future.

"I haven’t spoken Andrea [Pirlo] directly,” Del Piero told Sky Sport after the Old Lady’s 2-0 win over Dynamo Kiev in Champions League.

“If we look at the game against Crotone, it certainly denotes several criticisms and comments about Juventus’ game style or the fact that they didn’t bring home the three points.

Del Piero believes Pirlo 'will grab the opportunity'

Former captain Alessandro Del Piero ‘was very surprised’ by Juventus’ decision to appoint Andrea Pirlo as their new coach but believes the former midfielder will be ready to ‘convert this opportunity into success’.

Juventus sacked Maurizio Sarri after only one season at the Allianz Stadium and replaced him with World Cup winner Pirlo, who will start his coaching career with the reigning champions.

Del Piero reveals he didn’t expect the job would go to his former Italy teammate.

Del Piero: 'I would have kept Mandzo'

Former hero Alessandro Del Piero has claimed Juventus made a big mistake when they let Mario Mandzukic go: “I would have kept him all day.”

The former attacker spoke about the current difficulties at the Allianz Stadium, as Juventus have played two games without scoring after the resumption.

Juventus lost the Coppa Italia Final on penalties against Napoli and the former captain misses Mandzukic in the line-up.

“I would have kept him all day,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “For what he did and for how he does it.

Alessandro Del Piero concedes losing the Coppa Italia Final to Napoli is ‘a strong slap in the face’ for Juventus. ‘We’ve seen there are problems.’

The Bianconeri had already lost the Supercoppa Italiana against Lazio in December and were beaten on penalties last night following a second consecutive goalless draw.

Coppa Italia Final 2012: Juventus-Napoli

The last time Napoli and Juventus met in a Coppa Italia Final was May 20, 2012, also the Partenopei's first piece of silverware since the Diego Maradona era.

It was Aurelio De Laurentiis who could celebrate after the final whistle, as Edinson Cavani and Marek Hamsik provided a 2-0 win at the Stadio Olimpico.

Cavani opened the scoring from the penalty spot after 63 minutes, his fifth goal in the competition, before Hamsik added the second in the 83rd.

Del Piero in hospital with kidney stones

Alessandro Del Piero is in hospital in Los Angeles, suffering from kidney stones. ‘I still can’t believe something 3mm small can hurt that much.’

The former Juventus and Italy star posted an image of himself on Instagram in the UCLA Emergency Department.

He was wearing a facemask, which worried some fans, but he quickly assured that it was just a precaution.

“I still can’t believe something only 3mm small can hurt that much,” wrote Del Piero.

Italy 2006 squad donates ambulances

Alessandro Del Piero announced the fund-raising initiative from the 2006 World Cup winning Italy squad had been able to purchase four ambulances.

They were donated to the Italian Red Cross to help deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.

“They are ultramodern, with new bio-containment systems and at the end of this pandemic (which we hope is soon), can be used normally too,” wrote Del Piero on Instagram.
