Italiano: 'Spezia had to start winning again'

Vincenzo Italiano warns it’s ‘not normal’ for Spezia to suffer so much, but they are grateful to beat Cagliari 2-1 and the coach ‘couldn’t believe’ Zdenek Zeman praise.

“It had been over a month since we’d managed to celebrate, it’s natural we let loose. It was not normal to suffer that much in the final minutes after going 2-0 up, but that shows the period we are in,” the coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Serie A Seasons: Napoli 2000-01

Napoli’s return to the big time marked the beginning of the end, as having joint Presidents with opposing ideas on the transfer market was a recipe for chaos...

Words: Livio Caferoglu

If there was ever a club that set the bar for what not to do, look no further than Napoli in 2000-01. Their promotion in May 2000 should’ve been the catalyst for their revival, but it instead proved to be the first step towards their bankruptcy four years later. Aurelio De Laurentiis has since re-established the southern powerhouse, yet it could all have been avoided if Corrado Ferlaino - the man who brought Diego Maradona to the San Paolo – had it his way.

Rangnick the man to revive Milan

Ralf Rangnick may be something of an unknown quantity in Calcio circles, but Livio Caferoglu explains why he is exactly what Milan need right now.

History tells us German coaches aren’t usually a good fit for Italian clubs. Rudi Voller starred for Roma as a player between 1987 and 1992, but managed them for less than a month in 2004, winning just one of his six games in charge. He remains the only German to have ever coached in Serie A. Despite that, Milan are keen to rewrite history with Ralf Rangnick. And for good reason, too.

“Zeman always had this whistle that he really liked to use in training. One day, it disappeared after a session. After a while, a goose waddled past with the whistle around its neck, as Gascoigne had put it there.
