‘Kramer asked me: Is this the final?’

Nicola Rizzoli has lifted the lid on a confused Christoph Kramer and explained how he found out he’d be officiating the 2014 World Cup Final.

The Serie A official was handed the honour of refereeing Germany’s eventual extra-time win over Argentina in Rio de Janeiro, in a game that wasn’t without incident.

One of those in the first half involved 23-year-old Kramer having to be substituted soon after being caught in the head following a collision with Ezequiel Garay.

Italy drop to 14th in the world

Italy’s poor World Cup showing at Brazil ’14 has seen them drop five places in the FIFA World Rankings to 14th.

The Azzurri suffered defeats to Costa Rica and Uruguay to bow out of the 2014 World Cup this summer at the group stages, and have been hit in the World Rankings released by FIFA on Thursday.

This is Italy’s lowest ranking since October 2010, on from a decline then experienced following their group stage elimination from the 2010 World Cup.

CBF confirm Scolari exit

The Brazilian Football Confederation has confirmed that it has received and accepted Brazil Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari’s resignation.

The 65-year-old was strongly rumoured to have offered to leave his position yesterday, following the Selecao’s dismal end to their World Cup campaign on home soil.

The CBF have since released a statement confirming this move and their acceptance of it.
