Scolari resigns Brazil post - report

Reports in Brazil say that Luiz Felipe Scolari has resigned following the host nation’s disastrous end to their World Cup campaign.

The Selecao were defeated by a record breaking 7-1 scoreline in the semi-finals of this summer’s tournament to eventual champions Germany.

Pogba: Happy for this award

Paul Pogba has briefly commented on being handed the Best Young Player Award at the close of the World Cup.

On from Germany’s success in defeating Argentina after extra time on Sunday night, the Juventus man was announced as having beaten out France teammate Raphael Varane and Memphis Depay of the Netherlands to be voted best young player of the World Cup.

“Happy for this award,” Pogba responded through his Twitter account overnight.

Low thanks Klinsmann

Joachim Low credited predecessor Jurgen Klinsmann for Germany’s World Cup triumph and a “10-year project.”

The Coach lifted the trophy in Rio de Janeiro after a 1-0 victory in extra time over Argentina, their first World Cup win since 1990.

Gotze: 'I didn't know what happened'

Mario Gotze became the first substitute ever to score a decisive World Cup Final goal. “I didn’t know what was happening.”

The striker came off the bench to replace veteran Miroslav Klose, his chest and volley securing a 1-0 victory over Argentina in extra time.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling, I don’t know how to describe it,” 22-year-old Gotze told FIFA.

DFB see roots of German success

DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach identified the work that went into Germany’s World Cup triumph after 24 years.

Hummels: 'Exhausted and euphoric'

Mats Hummels was so exhausted and euphoric after winning the World Cup that he felt “like I’m on another planet.”

Lahm: 'Germany had best team'

Germany captain Philipp Lahm insisted “we had the best team in the tournament” after lifting the World Cup.

They needed extra time to beat Argentina in Rio de Janeiro, but the 1-0 result secured Germany’s fourth trophy – the first since 1990.

Rodriguez, Messi, Neuer and Pogba awards

James Rodriguez won the Golden Boot, Leo Messi the Golden Ball and Paul Pogba voted best young player at the World Cup.

The tournament concluded in Rio de Janeiro tonight with Germany beating Argentina 1-0 in extra time.

There were other trophies to be handed out, as Rodriguez of Colombia is the top scorer with six goals despite going out in the quarter-final stage.
