Spalletti blames fitness work

Luciano Spalletti felt Inter’s pre-season fitness training was to blame for a sluggish performance and defeat to Sion. “It was evident from the start.”

The Nerazzurri were beaten 2-0 by Swiss side FC Sion in this evening’s friendly match, their second outing of the summer.

“Our opponents deservedly won, as we saw from the start that they were moving quicker and stronger than us,” the Coach told Inter TV.

Genoa lose Zenit thriller

Genoa were beaten 3-2 in a pre-season friendly by Zenit St Petersburg, despite twice taking the lead in their Neustift training camp.

Zenit came out victorious by three goals to two, but Genoa had taken the lead when Piatek was brought down by the goalkeeper and Romulo converted the penalty.

The Russians equalised from a set play with Magomed Ozdoev and Luka Djordjevic hit the woodwork before half-time.

Gianluca Lapadula restored the Grifone advantage with a powerful header on Pedro Pereira’s cross.

Atalanta ask after Kranevitter

Atalanta have asked Zenit St Petersburg for the availability of midfielder Matias Kranevitter.

It would be an audacious move for the Orobici, as he cost €8m to sign from Atletico Madrid only a year ago.

The 25-year-old Argentine has nine senior caps for his country.

He made 33 competitive appearances for Zenit last season, contributing one assist.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the proposal was made today as an alternative to Mario Pasalic, who is close to Fiorentina on loan with option to buy from Chelsea.

New options for Spalletti

Inter have worked hard to find the players capable of stretching Luciano Spalletti's tactical imagination and providing options, writes Richard Hall.

As Inter’s transfer window activities continue to impress, it not only makes them look like a much deeper and stronger outfit, but also could bring out the best in their Coach Luciano Spalletti. The former Roma boss is nothing if not flexible and has a history of trying to experiment with his teams.

Now he has options to move away from a somewhat rigid structure which had given them the discipline to get back into the Champions League, so Inter could be entering a period where they evolve once again under the Tuscan.

Badelj has three options

Milan Badelj is a free agent considering proposals from Milan, Napoli and Zenit St Petersburg.

The Croatia international saw his contract with Fiorentina run down and is available without a transfer fee.

There were several clubs mentioned in recent months, but La Nazione newspaper claim the list is whittled down to just three options.

They are Milan and Napoli in Serie A, although the Rossoneri would need to get rid of at least one from current crop Lucas Biglia, Manuel Locatelli and Riccardo Montolivo.

The Coach was fired to make way for Carlo Ancelotti, but under Italian law the contract remains in place until either a termination is negotiated by mutual consent or someone pays the €8m release clause.
