Castrovilli leaves Italy camp

Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli has left the Italy camp due to injury, while Luca Pellegrini will join the Under-21 side rather than face the Netherlands.

The Azzurri began their Nations League campaign with a 1-1 home draw against Bosnia-Herzegovina last night, Stefano Sensi’s deflected effort cancelling out the Edin Dzeko opener.

Castrovilli did not take part and he has been sent back home after suffering from tendonitis.

Donnarumma: 'Dzeko will punish you'

Gianluigi Donnarumma admits Italy were rusty in their stalemate with Bosnia-Herzegovina and ‘Edin Dzeko will punish you’ at every chance.

The Azzurri had their first game in 10 months, a 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina to open the Nations League, as Stefano Sensi cancelled out the Dzeko strike.

“After such a long time, the first match is always going to be complicated,” the goalkeeper told RAI Sport.

Barella: 'Italy at different levels'

Nicolò Barella explains Italy were disjointed in their Nations League draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina because ‘we were all on different levels’ of fitness.

Stefano Sensi cancelled out the Edin Dzeko opener in last night’s 1-1 stalemate in Florence, while elsewhere in this group, the Netherlands beat Poland 1-0.

Listless Azzurri disappoint with Bosnia

It was typical September fare for Italy, so Giancarlo Rinaldi hopes for something more appetising in future than this drab draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Anyone who has watched an Azzurri season opener would tell you to keep your Prosecco on ice. Even in a normal year, the boys in blue tend to make their first September outing about as appetising as overcooked spaghetti. Their clash with Bosnia and Herzegovina in Florence was more limp and listless than even that implies.

Sensi: 'Happy for goal, not the result'

Stefano Sensi was ‘happy for my goal, but not the result’ after Italy drew Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-1 in the Nations League opener.

Edin Dzeko had put the Bosnians ahead in Florence, but Inter midfielder Sensi saw his finish deflected to equalise 10 minutes later.

“I am happy for my goal, but not with the result, as there are regrets at this draw,” Sensi told RAI Sport.

Dzeko: 'Bosnia got some pride back'

Edin Dzeko believes Bosnia-Herzegovina ‘got some pride back after the two defeats’ to Italy last year, holding them 1-1 in the Nations League.

The Roma forward opened the scoring in Florence, cancelled out by a Stefano Sensi equaliser, unlike the two Azzurri victories in Euro 2020 qualifying.

“I always love scoring goals, not just today,” Dzeko told RAI Sport.

Bonucci: 'Bosnia sat back and waited'

Leonardo Bonucci felt Bosnia-Herzegovina ‘sat back and waited’ to hit Italy on the counter-attack, but looks at the ‘glass half-full’ after a 1-1 draw.

The opening Nations League match ended 1-1 in Florence with Edin Dzeko’s opener cancelled out by Stefano Sensi.

“It was the same match as we played in Turin, with Bosnia sitting back and waiting, while man-marking us,” Bonucci told RAI Sport.

Edin Dzeko opened the scoring, just as he did last year in Turin when Italy fought back to win 2-1 in the Euro 2020 qualifier, but this time Stefano Sensi only got an equaliser.
