Perin: 'Covid created in a lab'

‘I am convinced Covid was created in a lab,’ says Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin who has recovered from the virus and insists he is not the ‘infector of Italian football.’

Perin was the first of 22 confirmed Covid-19 cases at Genoa.

“It was the week before Napoli-Genoa, on September 21. I went to Turin to see my wife and children, it was a Monday: contrary to what has been said, there is no evidence that I contracted the Coronavirus that day”, he told La Repubblica.

Perin has been hailed as the next great Italian goalkeeper ever since he joined Genoa in 2008. He was sent to Padova and Pescara on loan, where Perin impressed despite only recording nine clean sheets in two seasons. But in his first two terms with Genoa, he kept 18 clean sheets in Serie A 69 starts. His transfer value has soared from €6.5m to €17.5m in two years and Perin made his Italy debut in 2014. He is developing as expected, though is currently out after shoulder surgery.

Perin: 'Recovery will take time'

Goalkeeper Mattia Perin says that his 'recovery will take time' and confirms he's happy at Genoa: 'We have a nice group'.

The 22-year-old was ruled out of football for four months after his shoulder surgery and is still quite a way from returning to the pitch.

“On June 27 I took my cast off and I started with the real rehabilitation,” he said, as reported by ItaSportPress.

“Things are going fine, but my recovery will take time.

Genoa lose Donnarumma too

Bad news for Genoa, as goalkeeper Antonio Donnarumma is out for around four months with a shoulder injury.

The Grifone are already without first choice Mattia Perin, so brought Donnarumma back from his loan spell at Bari.

However, the 25-year-old suffered a shoulder injury during training and will go under the knife next week.

He is expected to be out of action for three to four months.

Because of this situation, free agent Samir Ujkani should sign a three-year contract to fill the gaps.

Reports in Britain are linking Tottenham Hotspur with a move for Mattia Perin, but his agent says it won’t happen.

The Genoa goalkeeper is seen as one of the rising stars of Italian football, and The Sun has linked Spurs with a move the Italian international.

However, his agent has moved to quash any speculation, explaining that Perin wouldn’t leave to play second fiddle to Hugo Lloris.

Perin out for four months

Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin underwent shoulder surgery today and will be out for around four months.

The shot-stopper has been struggling with a recurring problem in his right shoulder for much of the campaign.

It is hoped this operation will resolve it once and for all, allowing him to spend most of the recovery time during the summer months.

According to news agency ANSA, the surgery was performed by Professor Alex Castagna at the Villa Stuart clinic in Rome.

Perin extends Genoa contract

Goalkeeper Mattia Perin has officially extended his Genoa contract to June 2019.

The third choice Italy shot-stopper had hinted at a deal last week, but has now put pen to paper.

His contract with the Grifone will now expire on June 30 2019.

Still only 22, Perin started his career in the Genoa youth academy in 2008, going on to loan spells at Padova and Pescara.

He has widely been tipped to be the heir to Gigi Buffon.

Shoulder surgery for Perin?

There are fears Genoa goalkeeper Mattia Perin could miss the European Under-21 Championship for shoulder surgery.

The shot-stopper is out of tonight’s final game of the season against Sassuolo and has been struggling with this injury for some time.

It’s reported Perin might go under the knife to resolve the issue once and for all.

That would keep him out of action for around two months.

It’d force him to miss the European Under-21 Championship with Italy in June.
