Video: Happy birthday from Cosmi

Serie B side Perugia continued to call up their season ticket holders during the lockdown, this time with coach Serse Cosmi wishing a special happy birthday.

The club decided to stay close to their fans during the Coronavirus pandemic by getting their players and staff to personally ring up the season ticket holders.

The idea is to ask how they are doing, show solidarity and chat about the season.

Cosmi was given an extra special task, as he called a season ticket holder called Paola to wish her a happy birthday.

Cosmi: 'Want to see Perugia application'

Perugia coach Serse Cosmi says he wants to see “personality and application” against Napoli in their Coppa Italia clash tomorrow.

The Grifone play Napoli in the Coppa Italia Round of 16, and Cosmi says he’s looking forward to making his second debut in charge of the club.

“In these first few days we have thought about how to prepare for the game, giving priority to some aspects,” said Cosmi in his press conference.

Official: Perugia hire Cosmi

Serie B side Perugia have officially hired Serse Cosmi after sacking Massimo Oddo earlier today.

The World Cup winner was dismissed following a 1-0 defeat to Venezia, which saw the Umbrian side drop to eighth in the table.

As expected, they have turned to a familiar face in Cosmi to keep them in the promotion mix.

This is the 61-year-old’s second spell on the Perugia bench, having managed them between 2000 and 2004 with great success.

Perugia: Oddo out, Cosmi in!

Serie B side Perugia have sacked coach Massimo Oddo and will replace the World Cup winner with cult hero Serse Cosmi.

Oddo’s dismissal comes after a 1-0 home defeat to Venezia, which left the Umbrian side eighth and only in the playoffs by the virtue of a point.

Replacing him, reports Sky Sport Italia, will be Cosmi [pictured], who memorably coached Perugia between 2000 and 2004.

The 61-year-old led them through the most successful period in their recent history, which yielded an Inter-Toto Cup in 2003.

Cosmi: 'Makes me want to vomit'

Venezia Coach Serse Cosmi did not hold back after losing a relegation playout to Salernitana. “I want to vomit. They wanted blood and they got it.”

The Serie B playout wasn’t going to go ahead at all, but was hastily rearranged after Palermo won their appeal against demotion to last place for financial irregularities.

Instead, the Sicilians were only docked 20 points, leaving them mid-table.

Venezia sack Zenga for Cosmi

Serie B side Venezia have sacked Walter Zenga and appointed Serse Cosmi in the Coach’s place.

Zenga only replaced former Inter Primavera boss Stefano Vecchi in October, but a run of four defeats in five matches have left Venezia fighting relegation.

It marks the latest sacking in the career of the ex-Italy goalkeeper, having already been dismissed by the likes of Palermo, Sampdoria and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Serie B: Ascoli gain play-out advantage

The first leg of the Serie B relegation play-out ended goalless between Virtus Entella and Ascoli, but with both Coaches sent off for a touchline row.

Because Ascoli finished higher up the Serie B table during the close season, they can now secure their place with either a draw or a victory in the second leg.

Entella had the best chance to win it in the final minutes, but Aliji hit the outside of the post.

It was an ill-tempered finale with both Coaches Serse Cosmi and Gennaro Volpe sent off for a touchline row in stoppages.
