Asensio injury changes James fate?

Marco Asensio’s serious knee injury could prompt Real Madrid to keep Napoli target James Rodriguez, it is warned.

Asensio was stretchered off during Madrid’s penalties win against Arsenal in the International Champions Cup on Tuesday evening.

Los Blancos later confirmed the winger had ruptured not only the ACL in his left knee but also his external meniscus, effectively ending his season before it had even started.

Icardi open to Napoli talks?

Inter forward Mauro Icardi is now open to discussing a move to Napoli, according to Sportitalia, as Gonzalo Higuain is stalling Juventus.

The striker was told in no uncertain terms he was not part of Antonio Conte’s plans at San Siro this season, but has until now rejected all options.

He wanted to hold out for Juve, but the Bianconeri cannot purchase until they have sold Higuain.

As Higuain continues to snub the offer from Roma and the summer goes on, Icardi is beginning to realise he might not be able to wait for the Bianconeri.

ADL: ‘Napoli fans must be patient’

Aurelio De Laurentiis tells the Napoli fans to “have patience” because “a lot of interesting things” could happen before the end of the transfer window.

The Partenopei have been linked with a number of attacking players, most notably James Rodriguez, but so far haven’t been able to get a deal over the line.

The Serie A runners-up want to take James on loan with an option to buy, but Real Madrid will only do a permanent deal after Bayern Munich didn’t take up their option after a two-year loan.

Napoli progress for Pepe

Napoli are progressing well in talks with Lille for €80m-rated Nicolas Pepe, offering Adam Ounas and cash, but the player remains unconvinced.

The Partenopei are giving up on James Rodriguez, refusing to pay the €42m outright unless they get him from Atletico Madrid on loan with option to buy.

They’ve turned their focus towards a different type of player, one who can provide plenty of goals and has a high resale value for the future.

Napoli: Madrid 'could keep James'

Real Madrid could reportedly keep Napoli target James Rodriguez if they sell Isco for €80m.

James’ proposed move to Napoli remains on a knife edge as despite him being ready to join the club, they have yet to agree a deal with Madrid.

Now, AS is claiming that while Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane was unhappy with James’ attitude during the 2016-17 campaign - his last before being loaned to Bayern Munich - both he and the club still recognise the Colombian’s quality.
