Fonseca: 'Result the important thing'

Paulo Fonseca gladly takes the points after Roma beat Udinese 1-0 with a Pedro strike and has ‘faith’ Chris Smalling will arrive from Manchester United.

The Giallorossi finally earned their first win of the season, albeit a hard-fought 1-0 result away to Udinese, thanks to a Pedro Rodriguez screamer and Antonio Mirante saves.

“We said it was going to be a difficult game and it was,” the coach told DAZN.

Pedro: 'Roma title not impossible'

Pedro relished his debut Roma goal to seal victory away to Udinese and refused to aim low for this season. ‘We’re targeting a Champions League place, the Scudetto is not impossible.’

The former Chelsea star unleashed a right-foot rocket into the top corner from outside the penalty area, the only goal at the Dacia Arena.

“I am happy for the goal, to have helped the team and the very important three points,” Pedro told DAZN.

Fonseca expects 'a hard time in Udine'

Coach Paulo Fonseca believes Roma must ‘choose the best moments to attack’ Udinese tomorrow, as he calls for 'patience' against a compact Friuli.

The Giallorossi are still looking for their first win in 2020-21, after having started with a 3-0 defeat by default against Hellas Verona, before picking up a point against Juventus in Rome.

Fonseca stressed he ‘believes in his players’, having only made five changes in total during the two first games despite having five subs available for each match.

Highlights: Udinese 0-2 Spezia

Spezia made history with their first ever Serie A win and achieved it against the odds away to Udinese, after going down to 10 men.

Andrey Galabinov has so far scored all three of Spezia’s top flight goals, having also found the net in their 4-1 defeat to Sassuolo.

There were a couple of disallowed goals in this game at the Dacia Arena, although Galabinov’s header was the difference for much of it.

Cagliari: 'Leeds want Nandez and Simeone'

Cagliari President Tommaso Giulini reveals ‘Leeds United want both Nahitan Nandez and Giovanni Simeone,’ but there won’t be a summer sale.

The patron spoke at a press conference used to present new signing Diego Godin to the media following his move from Inter.

“Leeds want both Nandez and Simeone, but we can rule out these players leaving in the final days of the transfer market, because we would be weakened,” said Giulini.

“It’s too late, there wouldn’t be time to replace them.”
