Mazzarri: ‘Torino need Belotti’

Torino Coach Walter Mazzarri looks to fire up Andrea Belotti - “I hope he’s better than against Chievo, because we need him”.

The Granata face Milan tomorrow night, and Rossoneri Coach Gennaro Gattuso was fulsome in his praise of Il Gallo, comparing him to Andriy Shevchenko.

“He’s coming off an injury, and as often happens in that situation he’s struggled for consistency,” Mazzarri explained in his pre-match Press conference.

Torino President Urbano Cairo confirms Milan asked for Andrea Belotti last season, but “I doubt they’d ask again,” while rejecting offers for M’Baye Niang.

The Granata won the Primavera Coppa Italia for youth teams last night, as Toro beat Milan 1-0 at San Siro.

“I had spoken to the Milan directors last year about Belotti,” Cairo confessed to Sky Sport Italia.

Niang to join Nice?

It’s reported that Mino Raiola is trying to move M’Baye Niang to Nice, as he’s not wanted at Torino.

The French forward joined the Granata last summer on loan from Milan with an obligation to buy him outright for €20m in the summer.

According to Tuttosport though, even Walter Mazzarri - who managed Niang at Watford - has lost patience with the 23-year-old, who allegedly regularly goes AWOL from training.

Suspensions confirmed for Week 30

The Lega Serie A has officially confirmed the suspensions for Week 30, with Torino’s M’Baye Niang among those banned.

There were no red cards in Serie A this weekend, but a number of players picked up a booking which triggered a one-game ban.

Fiorentina pair Cristiano Biraghi and Marco Benassi are both banned for Week 30, as is Torino forward M’Baye Niang.

Also banned for Week 30 are Antonin Barak of Udinese, Lazio defender Wallace, Spal’s Jasmin Kurtic, Aleandro Rosi of Genoa and Bologna goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.

The 23-year-old joined the Granata from Milan last summer in a €12m deal and has scored four goals in 26 appearances in 2017-18.

The former Napoli, Inter and Watford boss replaced Sinisa Mihajlovic yesterday, and was officially presented to the media this morning.

“When Cairo called me, I immediately found a lot of feeling,” Mazzarri began.

“That’s every important in football. I think I’m now a well-travelled Coach, but when I entered the Filadelfia I got goosebumps.

Mihajlovic: 'Toro can eliminate Juve'

Sinisa Mihajlovic is confident Torino can knock Juventus out of the Coppa Italia. “In a one-off game we can fight it out with anyone.”

It kicks off on Wednesday at 19.45 GMT and the winners go on to face Napoli or Atalanta in the Semi-Finals.

“We’ve got Daniele Baselli back, as he was suspended against Genoa, but all the others remain on the treatment table, so in defence and attack my choices are rather forced upon me,” the Coach told Rai TGR.

Too much expected of Torino

Sinisa Mihajlovic and his Granata players are accused of underperforming, but Richard Hall notes perhaps the expectations were set too high.

Sinisa Mihajlovic was in buoyant mood before his team lost to Napoli this weekend. He was quick to stress that whatever the result, there was no crisis in his team, regardless of the daily complaints on the front page of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport.

Miha: ‘Stop whistling Niang’

Torino Coach Sinisa Mihajlovic criticises fans for whistling M’Baye Niang - “you can whistle those who don’t commit, but that’s not the case”.

The French forward set up the first goal against Carpi in the Coppa Italia last night, but his form has been poor since joining for Milan and he’s been a target for certain sections of the Granata support.

“Niang did well, I didn’t like the whistles from the fans,” Mihajlovic said in his Press conference after the match.
