‘Guidolin aimed rifle at Palermo players!’

Former Italy striker Amauri has claimed that Francesco Guidolin once “aimed a rifle” at him and his Palermo teammates – for motivational purposes.

In one of the more bizarre coaching methods, Amauri explained how the former Swansea City boss used the weapon to emphasise his demands for Palermo to “finish off” West Ham in their 2006 UEFA Cup tie, which the Rosanero went on to win.

“I’ll never forget what happened one afternoon in training,” the New York Cosmos veteran told Il Giornale di Sicilia.

Barzagli linked with US move

Juventus defender Andrea Barzagli has been linked with a summer move to New York Cosmos.

According to goal.com, the NASL side would like to add the 35-year-old to their squad next term with former Juventus striker Amauri currently on the books.

Such a move would be unlikely this summer however, with the veteran defender still in Coach Max Allegri’s plans and under contract for another year with the Bianconeri.

Amauri ends Torino contract

Amauri is likely heading to MLS after terminating his contract with Torino by mutual consent.

The decision was made after 18 months at the club, in which the Italian-Brazilian scored three goals in 30 games.

He had been expected to leave during the January transfer window, but could not find a suitable club.

This season the 35-year-old made only two appearances for Toro, eight minutes in Serie A and 31 minutes in the Coppa Italia.

His previous clubs include Napoli, Parma, Juventus, Chievo, Palermo and Fiorentina.

Melo praises Inter attitude

Midfielder Felipe Melo praises Inter’s mindset - “we want to win at all costs”.

The Nerazzurri have won just once in their last six Serie A games, falling 12 points off the Scudetto pace, but the Brazilian is sure that mentality is not the issue.

“We want to win at all costs, we’re all together,” Melo explained to Calcio2000.

“I’ve played for a lot of teams, and I haven’t always found this mindset. I’ve been at clubs where, even if you lost, it was accepted.
