Bruno Fernandes denies he wanted to speak to protesting Manchester United fans on Sunday, ‘I was watching Udinese playing against Juventus.’

There were chaotic scenes on Sunday afternoon when thousands of angry fans staged a protest outside Old Trafford against the club owners, the Glazers, and their intention to join the European Super League.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Europa League semi-final with Roma, Fernandes was asked about reports he, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay and Harry Maguire had offered to mediate with supporters.

Lukaku up for Europa League award

Inter striker Romelu Lukaku, Sevilla’s Ever Banega and Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes are up for the Europa League Player of the Season award.

The trio were short-listed by UEFA for the 2019-20 campaign, which concluded with Sevilla fighting back from a goal down to beat Inter.

Lukaku scored in all six of Inter’s knockout games for a total of seven goals, while Bruno Fernandes was the overall tournament top scorer with eight goals in 10 appearances.

Sporting: 'No Samp rights for Fernandes'

Sporting CP released a statement insisting Sampdoria do not have the right to €4.6m from the Bruno Fernandes transfer to Manchester United, as it will go to FIFA.

Samp sold the midfielder to Sporting in the summer of 2017 and he was then transferred to Manchester United in January 2020 for €46.5m plus bonuses.

While the Blucerchiati claim they are owed a €4.6m cut of that fee, the Portuguese side released their own statement today.
