Vieira admits Saint-Etienne contact

Former Juventus, Milan and Inter midfielder Patrick Vieira reveals he was offered the chance to take over at Saint-Etienne.

The former France midfielder is currently the Head Coach of Major League Soccer outfit New York City FC but says he was approached over the summer by the Ligue 1 side.

However, he insisted he is happy at his current club.

“I had some contact with them,” Vieira said during an interview with RMC. “They were looking for a new Coach and the met different people.

Milan and Inter watch Bamba

Milan and Inter are on alert after reports Jonathan Bamba requested a transfer from Saint-Etienne.

The 21-year-old right-sided winger has just returned from loan spells at VV Sint-Truiden in Belgium and Angers in Ligue 1.

He scored the winner in the opening game of the season against Nice last week, but his contract is due to expire in June 2018.

According to L’Equipe, Inter and Milan sent scouts to view Bamba’s performance in that match.

Official: Gabriel Silva to Saint-Etienne

Udinese have officially sold left-back Gabriel Silva to Saint-Etienne on a three-year contract.

The Ligue 1 side announced the transfer this evening.

He will wear the Number 11 jersey in France.

The 26-year-old Brazilian’s contract with Udinese had been due to expire in June 2018.

Gabriel Silva came to Europe for Granada in January 2012, going on to play for Novara, Udinese, Carpi and Genoa.

Last season, he made 18 competitive appearances between Udinese and Granada.

Empoli sell Diousse

Empoli have officially confirmed that promising midfielder Assane Dioussé has joined Saint-Étienne.

The 19-year-old made 33 Serie A appearances last season, but the Tuscan side were dramatically relegated on the final day.

Born in Senegal, Dioussé came up through the Empoli youth system, but it has been confirmed today that he’ll continue his career in France.

“Empoli FC announces the sale, on a permanent basis, of the player Assane Dioussé to AS Saint-Étienne,” a short statement confirmed.

‘Veretout is joining Fiorentina’

Saint-Etienne confirm Jordan Veretout has decided to join Fiorentina but describe the Aston Villa loanee’s conduct as “disappointing”.

Veretout had spent last season on loan at Saint-Etienne, but their sporting director claims the midfielder is heading for Fiorentina, despite giving the French club his “word” that he would stay.

“We know him well as a man and a footballer, but frankly we were surprised and disappointed by his conduct,” Dominique Rocheteau was quoted as saying by Tuttomercatoweb.

Official: Mounier to Atalanta

Atalanta have officially deposited Anthony Mounier’s contract, after just four days at Saint-Etienne.

Bologna loaned the attacking midfielder to the Ligue 1 side, but an interview surfaced in which he professed allegiance to Lyon and refused to wear a green shirt.

Despite Mounier’s apologies for his youthful indiscretions, he was not called-up for the weekend’s game against Toulouse and it was rumoured he would be sent back to Italy.

Saint-Etienne send Mounier back?

Anthony Mounier could return to Serie A for Atalanta or Crotone just days after Bologna loaned him to Saint-Etienne after a fan revolt.

The attacking midfielder only made the loan move on Friday, but was immediately greeted by protests and angry banners noting “our colours will never be yours.”

It stretches back to an interview Mounier gave some time ago confirming he supported their rivals Olympique Lyonnais and refused to wear a green shirt, as it was the colour representing Saint-Etienne.

Milan miss out on Lacroix?

Milan have reportedly missed out on Leo Lacroix as the Sion defender appears set to join Saint-Etienne.

Lacroix emerged as a late target for Milan in their desperate search for a new centre-back, but Calcionews24 claims they have been ousted by Saint-Etienne, who will sign the player on loan with an obligatory purchase option next summer for €5m.

The 24-year-old has spent his entire career with Sion and represented Switzerland at Under-21 level on three occasions.

Pioli: 'Lazio confidence booster'

Stefano Pioli saw Lazio’s draw at Saint-Etienne as “a confidence-booster and we want to go as far as possible in Europe.”

The Aquile were already qualified top of their group, so the 1-1 result in France was merely to maintain their unbeaten record in the tournament.

“It was a good game and we could’ve won it. There were some good things and it’s a confidence-booster, though a pity that we conceded late on,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

EL: Lazio earn St-Etienne draw

Alessandro Matri’s goal saw Lazio conclude their Europa League group unbeaten, earning a 1-1 away to Saint-Etienne.

The Aquile had already secured top spot in the group thanks to a draw and four consecutive victories, but were in dire straits in Serie A and badly in need of a confidence booster. Stefan de Vrij, Ricardo Kishna, Senad Lulic, Stefano Mauri and Eddy Onazi were injured with Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Stefan Radu and Keita Balde Diao suspended.
