Pau Lopez: 'Roma a step up for me'

Pau Lopez said Roma represented a “step up” in his career and it was worth taking a pay cut, even if he is being worked hard by his new coach Paulo Fonseca.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper is currently on international duty with Spain, but said the €23m move from Real Betis to Roma has presented him with a tougher daily routine at the training ground.

“Perhaps we train harder in Italy,” he told AS about his new life in the Italian capital. “In Rome I have a Portuguese coach, Paulo Fonseca, who works hard.”

Tottenham drop Dybala bid

Tottenham Hotspur have practically abandoned attempts to sign Paulo Dybala after securing a €60m deal for Giovani Lo Celso.

They had made a bid worth €70m, accepted by Juventus, but personal terms were proving a massive problem, just as they had been with Manchester United.

With the Premier League transfer deadline under 24 hours away, there isn’t enough time to work through the many complicated details.

Milik demands open Icardi door?

Arkadiusz Milik is reportedly asking to double his salary, so Napoli are open to a sale, especially if they can get Mauro Icardi from Inter.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the Poland international has started contract renegotiations on a deal that is due to expire in June 2021 and is aiming very high indeed.

The demands to double the salary, which is currently €1.8m, seemingly irritated Napoli, who take this as an opportunity to revamp their attack.

Carlo Ancelotti confirms Napoli are in talks for Nicolas Pepe and James Rodriguez, while denying Arkadiusz Milik would leave if Mauro Icardi arrived.

Betis interested in Napoli's Milik

Real Betis have confirmed their interest in Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik, who could make way for Mauro Icardi or Nicolas Pepe.

Milik was a regular for Napoli last season, but he appears increasingly marginalised by talk of Icardi or Pepe coming to the club.

There could now be a breakthrough for all concerned as Betis’ Vice-President suggests his club are ready to bring in the Pole.

Milik to Betis if Napoli get Icardi?

With Napoli pursuing Mauro Icardi and Nicolas Pepe, Real Betis admit they’d be happy to pick up Arkadiusz Milik.

The Partenopei today formally signed Eljif Elmas from Fenerbahce, for a reported €15m plus bonuses, and are now working on their attack.

Icardi is first choice, although the Inter striker seems intent on Juventus, while Napoli face competition for Lille winger Pepe from Manchester United.

If Napoli do bring in a new forward, they are expected to sell Milik, and Real Betis are waiting to take advantage.

Fekir flies in for Real Betis

Napoli interest in Nabil Fekir was short-lived, as he arrived today for his €30m plus add-ons transfer to Real Betis.

The Partenopei had been linked with a late bid for the forward, but negotiations with Betis were already at an advanced stage.

His contract with Olympique Lyonnais was due to expire in June 2020, so he was available for a reported €20m plus €10m bonuses and 20 per cent of a future transfer fee.

Napoli miss out on James & Fekir?

Napoli could miss out on James Rodriguez and Nabil Fekir if the latest reports are to be believed.

Consequently, Habla Deportes and Radio Caracol journalist Juan Salvador Barcera has tweeted that the 28-year-old will become an Atleti player.

Clubs line up for Ounas

Adam Ounas impressed for Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations, with Sevilla, Real Betis and Olympique Marseille seeking the Napoli winger.

He failed to get regular playing time under Maurizio Sarri or Carlo Ancelotti, leading many to expect a summer exit.
