Bari risk bankruptcy

After being knocked out in the Serie B play-offs by Cittadella, Bari reportedly now face bankruptcy if they can’t raise €5m in 10 days.

The Galletti were docked two points for failing to pay their players properly, which saw them fall behind Citta in the final table.

As a result, their home play-off game against Cittadella was reversed, and after going down to nine men they drew 2-2 after extra-time.

As they had finished lower in the regular table, that meant Bari were eliminated from the play-offs.

It was a reunion of old Milan and Italy teammates, as Inzaghi was in charge of Venezia (albeit in the stands due to a touchline ban) and Nesta only took charge of Perugia last month.

Serie B: Bari lose appeal

Bari saw their appeal against a two-point penalty rejected, which means Sunday’s Serie B promotion play-off will be hosted by Cittadella.

As the season came to an end, Bari were ahead of Cittadella in the table and therefore got the advantage of hosting the play-off preliminary game.

When Bari received a two-point penalty for financial irregularities, they dropped behind Cittadella and the venue was therefore switched from the Stadio San Nicola to the Stadio Tombolato.
