No winners at Napoli

When the club, players, coach and fans are all feuding, Marcello Cossali-Francis sees no positive way out of this mess for Napoli.

Politics and Italian football often go hand-in-hand and right now at Napoli, issues off the pitch are threatening to completely derail the current squad, with President Aurelio De Laurentiis at the forefront of everything.

Napoli’s woes on the pitch had led to a scheduled week-long training camp, which De Laurentiis had ordered, only for players to dismiss the camp completely and return to their homes following the Champions League draw with RB Salzburg last week.

Insigne wife rubbishes Napoli reports

Lorenzo Insigne’s wife has rubbished reports that she is in hiding after a wave of attacks on Napoli players.

Corriere dello Sport claimed earlier today that Jenny Darone had fled Naples to seek refuge at her parents’ home.

It comes after Allan and Piotr Zielinski were targeted by vandals in the city, seemingly in response to their recent poor form and decision to rebel against President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Ancelotti plots return to 4-3-3

Carlo Ancelotti is studying ways of helping Napoli out of a difficult period and might look to a 4-3-3 formation to get the most out of Lorenzo Insigne.

Lately Napoli have been dressed up in a 4-4-2 of trade, but Tuttosport claims Ancelotti is contemplating a switch back to a familiar 4-3-3 to help the Partenopei back on track.

Napoli players fear 'revenge attacks'

Napoli players are reportedly hiring bodyguards and living in fear of 'revenge attacks' from their own fans after Allan and Piotr Zielinski were victims of crime.

This week, 13 of the Partenopei players are on international duty with their respective countries, which will give President Aurelio De Laurentiis time to work on a fine, potentially up to 25 per cent of their salary.

In the aftermath of the player’s refusal to attend a training retreat last week, they are now also living in fear of being attacked by their own ultras.

Mertens to lead Napoli exodus?

Napoli are reportedly planning a mass exodus, which could start with Dries Mertens to Inter in January.

Napoli are in full-blown crisis mode after no wins in their last five games, exacerbated by the squad’s refusal to go on a punitive training camp.

With that in mind, Gazzetta dello Sport writes Mertens and Callejon will be the first to go.

Callejon should be China-bound, linking up with Marek Hamsik and Rafa Benitez at Dalian Yifang.

Fans insult Insigne, Allan and Callejon

The Napoli training session has concluded, with Lorenzo Insigne, Allan and Jose Callejon singled out for particular abuse from angry fans, including veiled threats.

The situation has exploded over the last few days, as the club ordered a training retreat in the build-up to the Champions League match with RB Salzburg and Saturday’s Serie A game with Genoa.

However, the players rebelled and refused to go back to the hotel after Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at the Stadio San Paolo.

Ancelotti and squad rebel at Napoli?

Carlo Ancelotti refused to speak to the media and abandoned his contractually-obligated press conference after Napoli drew 1-1 with RB Salzburg, amid reports the squad rebelled against a training retreat.

A win would’ve secured their place in the Round of 16 this evening, with two games to spare, but Hirving Lozano cancelled out an Erling Haaland penalty.

“It’s a rough period for us at the moment, but we’ve got to keep our heads up and continue to work,” the captain told Sky Sport Italia.

The Partenopei are sliding further away from the top spots and even the Champions League places with a run of poor results.

“We apologise to the fans, as we know that we can do better, but sometimes there are incidents like the ones on Wednesday that influence us,” Insigne told Radio Kiss Kiss.
