Insigne: 'A starting point'

Lorenzo Insigne said Napoli “needed” the win against Perugia and wants the Partenopei to use the Coppa Italia triumph as “a starting point”.

The captain scored a brace against the Griffoni in the last 16 of the Coppa Italia and helped Gennaro Gattuso’s men to overcome the Serie B side with a comfortable win.

“This must be a starting point, this win was needed,” he told RAI Sport after the match. “We have to stay calm and improve.

Re-Gennaration of Napoli

Gennaro Gattuso must build the new Napoli around their latest talent and usher out those whose time has come to an end, argues Elio Salerno.

Following his recent appointment as Napoli coach, Gennaro Gattuso will perhaps see the New Year and now open January transfer window as the ideal opportunity to refine his squad. A stuttering domestic campaign has thus far left the Partenopei down in eighth position and reviving their league form will be top of Rino’s agenda.

Gattuso: '4-3-3 and Insigne'

New Napoli boss Gennaro Gattuso hints he has signed on beyond this season and confirms “I have 4-3-3 in my mind” for his players.

Napoli did not confirm the length of Gattuso’s contract when they announced his appointment on Wednesday evening, but the former Milan man made it clear he did not view himself as merely a caretaker.

“You make me laugh when asking these questions. Whether I have six months or an option, it doesn’t matter, because our jobs are tied to results.

Ancelotti too nice for Napoli

Maybe Carlo Ancelotti was always too nice to make his mark at Napoli, as Susy Campanale feels his style of ‘soft power’ no longer works.

Carlo Ancelotti is the gentleman of football management, the cuddly figure nobody can hate and everyone would like to share a glass of wine with – and not just because you know he has the best choice of vino on the planet. He was the master of ‘soft power,’ the ability to navigate strong personalities and seemingly appease them while at the same time making his own decisions. However, in recent years, Carletto appears to have lost the power part and just gone soft.

ADL plans summer overhaul

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is planning a major overhaul of the squad next summer, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The club has been in the eye of the storm recently, as the players defied orders to return to a President-sanctioned training retreat at Castelvolturno following the 1-1 draw with RB Salzburg.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti reportedly backed the players, but he and his staff returned to the 'ritiro'. This led to De Laurentiis fining all the players.
