Mancini: 'Italy aim to win Euro 2020'

Roberto Mancini confirmed either Federico Chiesa or Federico Bernardeschi will start against Greece tonight, while advising how to get the best out of Lorenzo Insigne.

Italy’s Euro 2020 qualifier kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

It had been suggested that the only real doubt was between Nicolò Barella and Bernardeschi in midfield of a 4-3-3.

However, Mancini told Rai Sport the final choice to be made was between Bernardeschi and Chiesa, which would put them in the trident attack.

Insigne: 'Rows with Ancelotti, but...'

Lorenzo Insigne admits he has “rows with Carlo Ancelotti,” but the captain assures he’d “get myself killed for the Napoli jersey.”

The player has sometimes been dropped to the bench or even the stands in a Champions League draw with KRC Genk, amid reports of clashes with the Coach.

“My rapport with Ancelotti is a bit odd, as at times we have had rows, but that’s all down to our respective personalities,” Insigne told Rai Sport.

Milik confesses to confidence issues

Napoli striker Arkadiusz Milik confessed to struggling with self-confidence and criticism, but also advised Carlo Ancelotti on his ideal XI.

The Poland international spoke to Przeglad Sportowy in his homeland during the break for international duty.

“Every game is difficult for a striker when he doesn’t score. I haven’t really played for a month, I am rusty and lacking self-confidence. My form will improve with time and there is no point looking for the excuses of squad rotation, because I have to earn my place at Napoli.”

Insigne brother hits out at Ancelotti

Lorenzo Insigne’s brother has hit out at Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti for lacking ‘balls’ about the forward’s omission against Racing Genk.

Insigne was surprisingly dropped for Napoli’s 0-0 draw with Genk last night, Ancelotti claiming after the game that the captain was “less than sharp” in training.

However, the Coach’s version of events has not gone down well in the forward’s household.

Ancelotti: 'Still a positive result'

Carlo Ancelotti assured Napoli’s 0-0 draw with Genk was “not a slip-up at all and remains a positive result,” while explaining why Lorenzo Insigne was in the stands.

The Partenopei hit the woodwork three times and saw Kalidou Koulibaly’s effort cleared off the line at the Luminus Arena.

“It was a good performance and we had several chances for the breakthrough,” Ancelotti said on Sky Sport Italia and in a Press conference.

Giuntoli: 'No Insigne surprise'

Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli insists Lorenzo Insigne in the stands for a Champions League trip to Genk “shouldn’t cause all this surprise.”

“Honestly, there shouldn’t be all this surprise, as we have a large squad and the rule of only 18 is limiting,” the director of sport told Sky Sport Italia.

Mancini: Napoli advice for Insigne

Italy CT Roberto Mancini believes Giovanni Di Lorenzo will be “a future international” and that Lorenzo Insigne should defend less for Napoli.

Di Lorenzo and Insigne helped Napoli beat Champions League holders Liverpool 2-0 midweek, and Mancini says the success of the Italian contingent at the San Paolo bodes well for the national team.

“I was struck by Napoli’s attacking spirit, which is also what I want from my Italy,” he told Il Mattino.

Napoli statement in Europe

After falling short so many times, Anthony Barbagallo believes the win against Liverpool shows Napoli finally have the right Champions League mentality.

In the last couple of seasons, it has been evident that Napoli’s frail mentality in European competition has seen them fall short in the decisive fixtures. The losses to Shakhtar Donetsk under Maurizio Sarri in the 2017-18 campaign and last season’s slip-ups against Paris Saint-Germain and Red Star Belgrade highlighted a mentality issue when it comes to playing in the Champions League.
