Barcelona a unique chance for Napoli

Napoli are mid-table in Serie A but have a special night ahead against Barcelona. Martin Mork argues it might be their last for a while – but the start of something special…

When Barcelona arrive at the San Paolo for their first leg of the last 16 in the Champions League, it will represent Napoli’s first ever competitive match against the Blaugrana. And with nothing to lose against the reigning Spanish champions, Gennaro Gattuso will get the opportunity to take the focus away from a difficult campaign in Serie A.

Politano: 'Napoli suit me'

After struggling to convince Antonio Conte at the Giuseppe Meazza this term, Politano moved to Napoli during the transfer window in January.

Insigne: 'Make up for Napoli damage'

Lorenzo Insigne thanked Napoli strength in depth and Gennaro Gattuso’s grit after they beat Sampdoria 4-2. “We have to make up for the damage done earlier this season.”

It was a chaotic match at Marassi, as the visitors went 2-0 up within 16 minutes, were pegged back by a Fabio Quagliarella volley and Manolo Gabbiadini penalty, but Diego Demme and Dries Mertens sealed it late on.

Bonucci: 'Valuable lesson for Juventus'

Leonardo Bonucci hopes the defeat to Napoli will “serve as a valuable lesson” for Juventus and revealed why the second goal was a risk of zonal marking.

Piotr Zielinski and Lorenzo Insigne scored the goals, before a late Cristiano Ronaldo consolation at the Stadio San Paolo.

“Napoli gave more than 100 per cent, they were so determined on every ball and every knockdown. We gave 99 per cent and paid the price for that,” Bonucci told Sky Sport Italia.

Nothing left of Sarri's Napoli

Maurizio Sarri and Napoli together felt like a fairytale, but as they reunite on Sunday, Tommaso Adami fears they’ll never find that chemistry again.

Once upon a time there was Naples, a city whose people were so in love with football that the God of the sport himself decided to descend from the heavens to join their team. He took them to heights they'd never even fathomed and brought the most beautiful trophies the city had ever seen. But one day, sadly, he had to leave.

Mario Rui: 'Sarri deserves nice reception'

Mario Rui has encouraged the San Paolo to give Maurizio Sarri a “very nice reception” when the former coach returns to Napoli as the Juventus coach.

Sarri brought some good times to the Neapolitans and left for Chelsea in the Premier League after 148 games at the helm of the Partenopei.

He returned to Italy last summer, to take over rivals Juventus, but Mario Rui goes a long way back with the coach and said he hopes he will be “welcome” on Sunday.

Napoli combine coaches for success

Napoli turned a corner in the Coppa Italia by blending Gennaro Gattuso’s grit with Carlo Ancelotti’s tactical versatility, argues Kaustubh Pandey.

The Coppa Italia clash at the Stadio San Paolo could have been very different, if some crucial moments could have gone the other way. While Napoli did run out victors who will go through to the semi-finals of the competition against either Inter Milan or Fiorentina, they barely deserved to win the game by a tight 1-0 margin. They had to ride their luck big time and beat the team that has been adept at scoring late goals this season.
