Gattuso returns Napoli to 4-3-3

Gennaro Gattuso will implement a 4-3-3 formation as new Napoli coach, according to reports.

He has arrived at the Castel Volturno training ground and will hold his presentation press conference today at 17.00 GMT.

Gattuso will replace Carlo Ancelotti as the Partenopei’s new coach, and is set to make tactical changes straight away.

Ancelotti favoured a 4-4-2, the first time he’s gone back to that system since his days in charge of Parma in the late 1990s.

Ancelotti too nice for Napoli

Maybe Carlo Ancelotti was always too nice to make his mark at Napoli, as Susy Campanale feels his style of ‘soft power’ no longer works.

Carlo Ancelotti is the gentleman of football management, the cuddly figure nobody can hate and everyone would like to share a glass of wine with – and not just because you know he has the best choice of vino on the planet. He was the master of ‘soft power,’ the ability to navigate strong personalities and seemingly appease them while at the same time making his own decisions. However, in recent years, Carletto appears to have lost the power part and just gone soft.

ADL plans summer overhaul

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is planning a major overhaul of the squad next summer, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The club has been in the eye of the storm recently, as the players defied orders to return to a President-sanctioned training retreat at Castelvolturno following the 1-1 draw with RB Salzburg.

Coach Carlo Ancelotti reportedly backed the players, but he and his staff returned to the 'ritiro'. This led to De Laurentiis fining all the players.

Ancelotti: 'Perfect Napoli harmony'

Carlo Ancelotti has insisted there is “perfect harmony” at Napoli and that he “never thought about resigning” as the club’s coach.

Ancelotti takes to Liverpool a Napoli side in disarray after six games without a win, amidst speculation that he is at risk of losing his job if he fails to deliver qualification for the Champions League Round of 16.

“We’re not in last-chance saloon because in the Champions League we’ve earned more of a chance to qualify,” he said at a press conference.

Ancelotti: 'No Napoli internal warfare'

Carlo Ancelotti insists Napoli are fully focused on Liverpool, there is “no internal warfare” and “the only thing missing is a moment of magic.”

It kicks off at Anfield on Wednesday at 20.00 GMT.

“This game is worth a great deal because we have two match balls to go through, one here – which is very difficult, but also very exciting – and great tennis players close the match on the first match ball,” Ancelotti told Sky Sport Italia.
