Insigne open to Liverpool move

Lorenzo Insigne was in tears on the Napoli bench this week and his entourage is reportedly pushing him towards Liverpool.

The homegrown forward is negotiating a contract renewal, but so far the club has baulked at his wage demands.

Another problem, which is common at Napoli, is the issue of image rights.

According to Rai Sport, Insigne’s agent is ready to begin intensive talks with Liverpool, as Jurgen Klopp has long been an admirer.

CL: Napoli self-destruct with Besiktas
Napoli paid the price for defensive howlers, terrible finishing and a saved Lorenzo Insigne penalty in a 3-2 home defeat to Besiktas.

The hosts knew a victory here and draw between Dinamo Kiev and Benfica would make them the first side ever to book a spot in the Champions League knockouts with three games to spare.

ADL 'plans to sell Insigne'

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis is ready to let Lorenzo Insigne go for €50m, according to reports.

According to Calciomercato.it, the Neapolitan forward is a long way from securing a new contract with the Partenopei and the club have lost interest in reaching an agreement.

This season has been disappointing for the 25-year-old, who is yet to score a goal and has missed out on international call-ups from Azzurri boss Giampiero Ventura.

Insigne stands by Gabbiadini

Lorenzo Insigne trusts a home defeat to Roma “cannot be decisive” for Napoli’s season and stands up for Manolo Gabbiadini.

Edin Dzeko’s brace and Mohamed Salah secured a 3-1 result at the Stadio San Paolo, sending the Giallorossi into second place.

“We were unlucky, as Roma were closed up at the back and countered with Salah, but it could’ve ended differently,” Insigne told Radio Kiss Kiss.

Another new Napoli

Maurizio Sarri has been trying to lower expectations and Arkadiusz Milik’s injury has certainly done that, writes Susy Campanale.

In an odd sort of way, Maurizio Sarri might see the bright side to Arkadiusz Milik being ruled out for four to six months. Losing their top scorer and heir to Gonzalo Higuain inevitably knocks down the expectations of a Scudetto push, something the Coach has been trying to do since he took charge.

Mertens new Napoli centre-forward?

Maurizio Sarri could be planning a tactical revolution, as Dries Mertens was used as a centre-forward in training ahead of Napoli-Roma.

It’s second against third on Saturday at 14.00 UK time (13.00 GMT), click here for a match preview.

Arkadiusz Milik ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament on international duty and is therefore out of action for four to six months.

Manolo Gabbiadini is expected to lead the attack this weekend, but there are other options.

Mertens: 'My Napoli with Insigne'

Dries Mertens hopes he can “play together” with Lorenzo Insigne for Napoli and Arkadiusz Milik’s injury means he may well get that wish.

The Partenopei were shaken last night by Milik’s injury on international duty with Poland, reportedly a partial ACL tear that will require four months on the sidelines.

As Manolo Gabbiadini is not a genuine centre-forward and often struggled in that role, Mertens and Insigne could flank Jose Callejon as a False 9.

Insigne wage row with Napoli

Lorenzo Insigne’s position at Napoli is increasingly tense, as his wage demands are €2m per year off what is being proposed.

The striker is under contract until June 2019 and currently negotiating an extension.

According to multiple reports, the player’s entourage wants €4.5m per year.

That is a huge leap from the current €1.8m per season salary.

More importantly, it is also massive compared to the wages on offer: €2.5m per year.

Saviano: 'Insigne and Zlatan in Gomorrah!'

Roberto Saviano is a big Napoli fan and said he could cast Lorenzo Insigne and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Gomorrah. “They’d be perfect!”

First a book, then film and now an internationally-acclaimed series, Gomorrah covers the organised crime syndicates in Naples, commonly known as the Camorra.

“I really like Maurizio Sarri, as he’s rough, disciplined, almost military. The Coach he reminds me of the most is Zdenek Zeman,” Saviano told Sky Sport Italia.
