Insigne: ‘Napoli, I’m waiting’

Lorenzo Insigne gives his “full availability” for a Napoli renewal - “if my dream shatters, it won’t be my fault”.

The attacking midfielder is a local hero as a Neapolitan who came up through the Partenopei’s youth system.

Despite his status at San Paolo, a new contract has yet to be agreed with the Italian international, who reiterates that he wants to stay with his boyhood club.

“We met with Napoli this summer and the first meeting didn’t go well,” Insigne admitted, speaking to Rai.

Insigne warms to new offer

Reports suggest that Lorenzo Insigne has moved closer to signing a new contract with Napoli.

Negotiations were said to have broken down over the summer when the player requested a €5m salary, with the club having dismissed this out of hand.

Such high demands were said to be due to President Aurelio De Laurentiis’ firm stance over image rights, as with these tied to the club, players are unable to earn money from lucrative sponsorship deals.

Gianluigi Donnarumma [Milan]

Outstandingly the man of the match making a handful of outrageous saves. Two in particular were out of this world, as he first stopped Gonzalo Higuain’s acrobatic volley, while the second saw him paw the Argentinian’s sensational scissor kick off the line. Dazzling.

Mertens can maul Real Madrid

With the incredible influence of Dries Mertens at Napoli, Richard Hall notes he has to deliver against Real Madrid.

Before discussing Maurizio Sarri’s happy accident, it must be noted that Napoli are certainly not a one-man team and that Dries Mertens is not a natural centre-forward. If you hold that thought, the Partenopei’s current situation suddenly becomes tantalising and beautiful.
